Birth & Marriage record from Italy

I emailed the commune where my great grandparents emigrated from using this form letter as the basis of my request.

About a week and half later I received a letter and two documents in the mail.

birth record - back
marriage record

First, will this satisfy a consulates need (specifically San Francisco) for my great grandfathers birth certificate and marriage certificate?

Second, my Italian is pretty poor but what I gather is that my great grandmothers birth record was not found in the commune archives. Whom should I contact next to try and find this document?

Yes, these are what the consulate is looking for.

The marriage record indicates that the bride, Margherita Farfalletta, was born in Messina ("nato in") and that she was 23 years old ("di anni venti-tre") at the time of the wedding.

So, you can now write to Comune di Messina for her birth record.
