Looking for info on my greatgrandparents

Post by krissy »

Hello everybody,

I am searching for info on my great grandparents before the came to the united states in November of 1900. I am new at this and hoping somebody can steer me in the right direction. I have found my great grandfather's record at ellis island but nothing about my great grandmother. My grandfather's name was Salvatore Fasone and my grandmothers before they were married was Angelina Lacari. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Krissy

Hi Krissy
Welcome to the forum!
We can help direct you on how to find records in Italy if you know the comune (town) where your g-grandparents were born.
If it's not on your g-grandfather's ship manifest, it may be on one of his US records.
Do you need help locating any US records?
Thank you,
Valarie

found this Nov 1900 manifest
but this Salvatore Fasone was joining his wife in Kansas City

Hi Valerie,

Thank you for responding so quickly. That is the same record I have as well from Ellis Island. It was very hard for me to read alot of the info on there. My grandfather says that they were married in Italy and when they came to the us the lived in Chicago Illinios then moved to Los Angeles California. I have never heard anything about Kansas City before. Maybe you could tell me how to look up his US records and I can go from there. The annotations on the Ellis Island record names the 5 children they had together but they have mispelled my g-grandmothers name. So now I am not sure if that is the right ship manifest. I do know they lived in Palermo. Any ideas on where to search next?

This is a great free site:
FamilySearch pilot site

A good start if this record belongs to your family
- the mother's maiden name was Licari(?)

Thanks!
Valarie

Hi Valarie,

After talking to my mom and my grandfather the birth certificate you found for me is my grandfathers brother. I had misspelled my g-grandmothers maiden name. It is Licari not Lacari. So now we know we are on the right track with the right people. So what I am wanting to do is find the records of them coming to Ellis Island and I would like to get the info on them before they came to the states. My grandfather is 87 now and some of his details are a little fuzzy but he believes they came to the states in 1901 and went to Chicago. Then sometime between 1923-1930 the relocated to Los Angeles California. Could you steer me in the right direction. Salvatore Fasone was born in Palermo and Angelina was born in Marsala? I would appreciate any info you can give me...Thanks!!

Krissy,
That's good news!

If you don't like the FamilySearch pilot site for finding ship manifests, this one has a lot of search options:

http://stevemorse.org/ellis2/ellisgold.html
Ellis Island, New York arrivals

If your g-grandmother traveled with your g-grandfather she may be identified on the next line of the manifest as 'wife' Angela.
If she traveled after your g-grandfather, she will be listed under her maiden name

Let us know if you want us to help you look

Here's a possible record that may clear some things up
Were they married in New York?
If they were that would have been their destination on their ship manifests

from NYC records by the Italian Genealogical Group
http://www.italiangen.org/

Name Marriage Certificate Number County FHL roll number

Fasone Salvatore Oct 1 1916 13080 (1916) Kings 1613705
Licare Angela Oct 1 1916 13080 (1916) Kings 1613705

Valarie I can not thank you enough for all this info you have lead me to. I have sent the info to my mom and grandfather to make sure we are still on the right track. There are some things my grandfather will not discuss from the past so my mother and I are trying to piece it all together. Thank you again for all your help so far!!!

Hi mj :D !
I agree, this is most likely Krissy's g-grandmother.
It would be neat if her mother and grandfather recognize the person she is joining in NY.

Hi guys!

Thanks so much for all the info you have found for me. I agree with you that this is most likely my g-grandma. When I talked to my mom last night she had told me my grandfather was already in his room for the night so she was going to talk to him today. So I am waiting to here from them today. I had found california death records and sent them to my mom and she confirmed it was my g-grandparents and a brother of my grandfathers and a sister-in-law of my grandfathers. So I know we are on the right track. Is there a place where I can go to find their roots in Italy like birth certificates? Thank you guys again for all the help you have provided.

Krissy, it looks like you're making a lot of progress!
Yes you can get birth, marriage and death records in Italy.
They are kept at the comune (town) where the event took place.
For some comunes you can look thru microfilm at your local Family History Center.
For civil records after abt 1866 you can also request a record (in Italian) from the comune.

Since your g-grandmother's manifest (pg 2) states she was born in Marsala, you would write here:

Address:

Comune di Marsala
Ufficio dello Stato Civile
Via Garibaldi 5
91025 Marsala TP
ITALY

http://www.tuttitalia.it/sicilia/22-marsala/
---

Website for finding comune addresses:
http://www.nonsolocap.it/
---

Italian form letter generator with instructions:
http://www.circolocalabrese.org/resourc ... civile.asp

Or other helpful form letters:
