Where can i find Divorce Records in italy?

Im wondering where i can find Divorce records in Salina, Sicily, Italy around mid 1920's.

Divorce in Italy is legal from december 1970....

So if someone divorced in the 1920's in italy what would happen, or what would they go through?

i know my great grandparents went over sees.

If they were married they simply could not legally divorce in Italy. They could however go to another country and obtain the legal status to divorce according to that country's laws. If they then returned to Italy there would be no punishment, but the Italian Government would still consider them to be legally married to each other.

The other option would have been to obtain an "annulment" of the marriage from the Catholic Church. This usually involved the charade of pretending the marriage had never been consummated, or that consent was never freely given (which, quite frankly was sometimes the case). It often also involved paying the Church lots of money, or using power and influence. Poor people rarely got annulments.
