I just decided to start searching & I think I am in the lowest place of looking - I dont even know for sure which part of Italy my family came from
I am searching for my surname - Critelli
as well as Mastria & Rotolo

Any help would be much appreciated

Buy the book Italian genealogical records by traffor R,. Cole for starting out,. it is an easy read and majke you a wonder in the family. For straters start working backward from the USA via ellisisland just to get your feet wet. www.ellisisland.org. buy or borrow the book...it is interesting and informative.....the LDS
site also has research tips and guidelines that are most helpful...
including writing letters to Italy.

interview family and family friends, find out what they know. old pictures,
letters, postcards, family bible, local parish records, death certificates,
naturalization and citizenship papers, social security application, and even
old obituaries can provide you with names, dates and places. you need
the town of origin in Italy to trace the family there, hopefully you can uncover this in one of the above sources.

It is what I have been saying since day one. This man has no place here.
He is scarcely helpful beyond a VERY remedial level. He quite obviously has had little actual experience, which is fine EXCEPT that he is a rude, obnoxious, and insulting poster. He attacks pretty much everyone here.
New people join this forum in droves, post a couple of times, are harassed and subsequently scared off. And this is ok with you people?
