given name vs baptismal name

Post by oilman19 »

I have a birth act that shows (on the Baptismal side) the name "Alessandra Viggiano dico Iannotta".
On the left side the baby's name is simply Alessandra.
The mother's surname is Viggiano.
Can someone please explain this baptismal name for me.

Thank you
Jim

It's a correction to the error on the baptismal record which has the mother's surname instead of the father's. It means it should say Iannotta

I was unable to determine the proper meaning of "dico".

Thank you very much.

Nope, it is a correction of a mistake!
Also known as would be "detto".
