salvatore catuogno arrival records

I have been trying to find the arrival records of salvatore catuogno but have had no luck. I have found his records after arrival (marriage, naturalazation, etc) but cant track him back to confirm where he came from.

The family story is that he was from a wealthy family which had a shipping company and some sort of interest in land in Capri. There was an arranged marriage that he wanted no part of and he pretended to be a doctor on one of their ships and jumped ship being and was then dis-owned by his family

B: ~1879
Arrival: 1904/5 records cite Sicilian Prince around July 4th but I cant find a trace
Marriage to Margherita Casotta

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Do you know his town of origin?

Likely to be of Capri or possible Naples

If this is his Petition for Naturalization, it says he was born in Naples and his wife, Margherita, was born in Melfi.

Try this name in a search at Ellis Island and see if this could be him. The age is off in the manifest, (the ship is the Lahn, which landed on December 7, 1903) but appears to be corrected in the detainee list at the end.

Or, a closer match might be this one:"Castagnola, Salvatore" - aboard the Sicilian Prince that landed on May 28, 1904.

Thanks for the suggestions, unfortnatly they dont appear to be him (although the naturalization is). He had no family which eliminated the first match and he always stayed in NYC which eliminated the second.

What would "jumping ship" entail, and would there be a record of it?

I don't know.

However, in general I would caution against rejecting records just because they don't support every detail of the family narrative. Stories have a way of changing/growing over time and those that survive several generations rarely contain all the pertinent facts.

You mention that you have Salvatore's marriage license; are his parents names on it? Also, who are the witnesses listed?
