First of all there are 20 DONADIO sunrmaed people in Caivano, province of napoli, Postale 80023 and some if not all, I suspect are related to you. In any event if you wish to locate a record or seek out a relative then please determine just what you want to know. You can either sned one letter to all the people in CAIVANO sking them if they are rrelated to you and yur grandfather or you can write to the town hall and ask for his birth record, marriage record Please let me know. if you want to find the amesmaddresses and telephone numbers of the dONADIO listed people in Caivano goo to www.paginebianche.it and put in DONADIO in the first line and CAIVANO in the third line and then cluick CERCA for the entire listing by fulll name, addrsss and telephone number. See if there are any with first names that run in your family. Peter

I have to try and track this down, which might not be possible, but I had a colleague a number of years ago from Columbus, Ohio who might be of use on this as I think he had mentioned his tracing of his family tree. His name was Patrick Donadio and he lived in the Columbus, Ohio area doing management consulting for government agencies especially police departments. If I can track down a current number or address for him I will post it to you.

Probably TMI but the person I was mentioning had information on their family tree and since the surnames were the same I figured there could be a distant connection. I know years ago my family was given more insight into our family's past ancestors due to work of another Camma family in the States who had the necessary data on all the siblings in past generations.

I canunderstand that but in Italy, as you know, the family goes along with the town so while it can happen its just pot luck if they come from the same town. Peter

We have Donadios from Caivano

Post by kjgartner »

I am glad to hear that others are also looking into their Donadios from Caivano. I'll let you know what I have.

Our Donadios came over in 1905 from Naples, indirect through a sojourn in Sao Paulo, Brazil -- apparently there are still some Donadios who are there. My GGrandfather is Simone Donadio, who married Candida Guida from nearby Cicciano. My family settled in Brooklyn and eventually Queens NY. He came across to Ellis Island with his brother Giussepe on March 28, 1904.

Our tree looks like the following:

Luigi Donadio (b ~1840-1860) & Maria Theresa (~1840 - 1860) in Caivano:

(1) Simone Donadio (Nov 14, 1880 - Late 1927) - Tailor born in Caivano at #2 Acqua Viva (we have his birth certificate). He married Candida Guida (Feb 5, 1881 - July 1943) and had:

(a) Ralph Donadio (my grandfather)
(b) Luigi/Louis (Dec 16 1899)
(c) Inez (Oct 25, 1913)

(2) Giusseppe (b 1886-1887)

(3) Luigi? -- vague recollection that he ran a candy shop in Brooklyn in the 1920s.

Rosa Sgrillo from Craco, Potenza, traveling with children Nicola, Teresa and Filomena. They would be joining Biagio in New York.

On this manifest it also mentions that Rosa's father is Nicola Sgrillo as the closest relative in Italy.

mjpf : this sounds like my family but the names i know are not the same, but spellings might have changed i know over the years. my grandfather nicholas was born on october 3rd, 1892, i know this is correct and exact date because i have his card that my father had, that was given to him at the funeral, and it has that date on it and his death date as of july 22, 1972. and the funeral home was d'angelo funeral home inc. at 494 seneca ave, ridgewood, new york . but i'm going to print all this off and keep it all just in case this is my family.

Based on all the info - names of siblings, corrected name of your great grandfather... that you emailed, I think they are the family you are researching...

The only questionable manifests are the last ones the other post... (Castle Garden Manifests).. as they aren’t as descriptive or as accurate as the Ellis Island manifests.

Maybe you and your cousin just need to research your ancestral family a little more as the 2 of you were in doubt... Yes I agree, the given names aren’t exact , but names do change in America. Names such as “Maria Teresaâ€Â
