Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.
Does anyone know how to copy the "enlarged ship manifest"
so that it can be read easily? I have three manifest at Ellis
Island, and I would like to send copies to a family member.
I seem to recall that the website puts a blocjk on this since they sell it commercially but I also know there is a way to make a copy of the enlarged manfiest but I do no t recall the process. Peter
thanks peter....your right......they do block it,
and you can buy a copy for 25 dollars..in my case
that's going to run 75 dollars.....
what about the Lds....can it be copied from microfilm?
If you are using MSIE6, just hover over the picture, and a little pop up box appears. Click on the disk icon and save the picture as a .gif file.
Another way would be to use alt-PrtScrn to copy the screen to the clip board and then paste into a photo editor program, scroll right, alt prt-screen paste again scroll down, and alt-prt screen paste again until you have the whole picture in lots of portions. Then combine the bits together using the tools meant for stiching landscape photos together. A bit fiddly but worth $25 a go.
If you are still stuck, let me know where and I'll give more detailed instructions when I get home tonight. (I'm supposed to be working).

This is exactly right, they can be saved in gif format this way. The saved image is quite large and the quality is not diminished. I print them on 11 X 14 Cardstock and they are beautiful.
Thanks, I am going to print out both instructions....
I taught myself how to use the computer......I've gotten
pretty good...but I still get stuck occasionally
The manifest is for an elderly relative...I want the manifest
to be easily read.....
ok........i managed to save it in .gif...and i can bring it up in the
hp editor program.....now to print it out without losing the size?
also.......the writing on one image is faint...anyway to enhance this?
When you say "without losing the size", do you mean it does not fill a full sheet of normal paper, or that you want to split it over a number of sheets and stick them together to make it full original size?
When you say the image is faint, do you meen the black is a wishy washy grey, or are you talking about the pixelation?
I just printed the original manifest from an Ellis Island image. To do so, hold the control key and the print key at the same time. This will bring up your print options and use landscape instead of portrait to get the whole manifest.
Ever since I was a little boy, my dad would show me my great grandfather's card, and tell me that he was a count in Italy. I was always intrigued by that, but never really thought about asking my grandmother questions, or anyone else for that matter. About ten years ago, as more and more information...
