Re: Cerrone's from Sora Ialy
I can't help you exactly, but my family were from Sora/Pescosolido and came to the UK B'ham at approx the same time.
Some of my descendents were Castellucci, could be related!
You can start a search in the UK 1911 census, to get more of a fix on their whereabouts.

Thanks Tomo,
I have the census for 1911, and three of the boys were living with parents in Alcester, warwickshire. the eldest though John only 8 at the time was not down as living there for some reason??
Also there were two visitors at the home at the time, their surnames were Vancellias. I have searched everywhere for records on this surname, as they were too from Sora, Italy, however the name does not seem to exist. I downloaded the original census document in case the surname had been recorded incorrectly, it may have been, but it does look like Vancellias, have you ever heard of this surname???
I have managed today to find out that some of the boys ( my uncles) fathered children, so I am just trying to get in touch with them now to see if they can help me.
Thanks again

Re: Cerrone's from Sora Ialy
Also Tomo,
Do you know wxactly when your ancestors came over to the UK, if so how did you find this information out?
I have been told that Pasquale was supposed to be on a ship to USA, however he got off in the UK, that is all I know.
I presume he was only a child anyway when he arrived as he married his wife at only 16. If children travelled here, do you know if they would have been able to travel on their own in then day,s or whether they would have had to be accompanied by an adult??
Thanks again

Re: Cerrone's from Sora Ialy
Tehmi77,
I've been researching for a couple of years, in my case my first arrival ancestors came in 1896, others ancestors all quickly followed approximate 1900's.
Some were listed in the 1901 census, spelt incorrectly which makes things harder, also many anglicised there names to sound more English.
By far my biggest steps were working with Anne Tatangelo, a genealogist living and working in Sora. Anne found census info in Sora on all my families.
The census was started in approximate 1861 and the single document was kept up to date for 40 years. With this I have gotten back to approximate 1760.
You'll find Anne in the forum's as italysearcher, she can help tremendously.
Also for Birmingham, if you send me a private message, I can help you there.
Steve

Re: Cerrone's from Sora Ialy
Thanks Steve,
I am about to order a microfilm from LDS which will hopefully have Pasquale's and Concetta's birth acts, whether I will be able to read this I am unsure but I will have a go and if not I may well use the italian researcher as she seems to helped a lot of people with relatives from Sora, italy.
I managed to speak to my Auntie last night who had found out a bit more information for me. It would seem as Pasquale died when his youngest son was only 8, it is now thought that his youngest John went to live with the Lombardi family in Birmingham Italian Quarter. Not sure of the other two brothers as yet, as Concetta re-married a year after Pasquale dies in 1919 to a William Baylis, and not sure if they went with her or with their brother too. As there is no census info after 1911 this is hard to confirm until I can get a little more info.
How do i send you a personal message, sorry to be thick??
