Trying to find information for a Giuseppe Digaro
I am trying to find more information about an ancestor of a former co-worker of mine.
This co-worker's grandfather was named Giuseppe Digaro and he came over to the U.S. on July 16, 1904 on a ship called the Citta Di Torino.
Giuseppe Digaro changed his name some time after he had lived here in the U.S. and the new name that he chose was Joseph De Caro.
Giuseppe Digaro according to naturalization records that I found was born in Corleone, Italy.
Giuseppe Digaro was born on February 16, 1885 and he died in Berrien County, Michigan on April 27, 1953.
The ship, Citta Di Torino, was supposed to have left Palermo, Italy on June 4, 1904 and arrived in New York, New York on July 16, 1904.
I am trying to find a record of the passenger list for this ship so I can see if other family members might have come over with him.
I'm hoping to find any family relatives that might have stayed behind in Italy so I can pass these names along to my former co-worker.
Thanks for any help that any of you can provide.

Re: Trying to find information for a Giuseppe Digaro
hi and welcome to the forum,
This might be the correct manifest. What do you think? it is not unusual for memory to be off.

Re: Trying to find information for a Giuseppe Digaro
Misbris,
Thanks for replying so quickly.
I looked at this document that you provided and it looks like there was a Giuseppe De Cara at the bottom of the document.
It shows the age of this person as being 50 years old, so this would be too old to be the Giuseppe Digaro that I'm looking for.
Here's a copy of the death certificate for Joseph De Caro showing the names of his parents and the date of his birth.

Here's a copy of one of the pages of the naturalization record for Giuseppe Digaro.

Thanks anyway.

Re: Trying to find information for a Giuseppe Digaro
If you search the ship and date from the www.stevemorse.org website, you can search the passenger list page by page, which I did and I didn't find this person on the ship, even with his name misspelled. You can double check me though.
http://stevemorse.org/
On this website, go to the 4th item which says Ellis Island Ship Lists (1892-1924); click on that option which takes you to another screen.
On the next screen, put in the name of the ship and you can just put in the year of 1904 where it says arrival date, or you can put in the month and the year. If you just put in the year, that will show you the 6 dates the ship sailed. You can then click on the ship name for each date, which will take you to the manifests for each sailing and you can then go page by page to search for this person, since his name doesn't come up even in a sound search.

Re: Trying to find information for a Giuseppe Digaro
He states on the manifest that he had not previously been in the U.S. Going to his father Giuseppe living at 219 E 97th Street in NY. Traveling with a brother Nicolo on the line below him.
You can view the manifest on stevemorse.org, by searching the name as spelled on his passenger card above or by searching on www.ellisislandrecords. org with the spelling as above

First Name: Andensia

Last Place of Residence: Corleone
Date of Arrival: Mar 25, 1907
Age at Arrival: 51y Gender: F Marital Status: M

This is his mother traveling with two other children. Carlo, 13, and Saverio, age 8. Going to her husband/their father, at 220 E. 97th Street in Manhattan.
On ellisislandrecords.org, the original manifest is the wrong one. To view the correct one, go to www.stevemorse.org
go to the option (3rd down) which says Ellis Island Manifests (aka Missing Manifests). Click on that option. On the next screen, put in the date March 24, 1907. series T715, roll 851, frame 416. This will bring you to the original manifest page with them on it.
By the way, since the mother's name is given as Mary on the death record, her Italian name was probably Maria Audenzia.

Re: Trying to find information for a Giuseppe Digaro
The manifest that misbris found for you is for his father, going to his daughter Caterina. 226 97th Street-definitely all of the above manifests relate to the same family.
Re: Trying to find information for a Giuseppe Digaro
I can't promise that this is the father of Maria Audenzia, but possibly it is. She could have been named for his mother, Audenzia Scanciapani. Also Maria Audenzia had a son named Saverio, named for her father possibly.
