When my Aunt visited Genova 11 years ago she was told that all the records relating to my great great grandfather had been destroyed (they were kept in a local church).
Are they the only records likely to have been kept in that area? seeing that there seems to be a good system of recored keeping in Italy I can\'t bring myself to believe that there are no other records available.
Thanks once again

civil records in Italy began in the early 1870\'s when Italy became a unified nation. Some parts (mostly the South of Italy records went back to 1803) had earlier records but for most of the north records only go back to the early 1870\'s and prior to that in the churches only!! Peter

Thanks again for the reply Peter. That\'s better news than having no records at all!
