My grandfather served in the american military, in WWII. am I correct in thinking Italy would consider that renouncing Italian citizenship? I have heard that if you serve in another country's army you often lose citizenship in your home country...
But they don't ask for military records, do they? I have searched through many sites and have found the list of required documents many times, and military records are not among them. So they wouldn't know if my grandfather was a veteran, right? Do they ask, when they interview you? I would never lie and say he was not.
any insight you could offer me on whether his military service in the US army makes it impossible for me to gain italian citizenship would help greatly. I am going to email the Italian embassy in area, too, but I don't want to bother them yet if I can find the info elsewhere.
