The beta.familysearch has been tried as well as the Ellis island but they don't have listed the family records i need. it is another family

I did find my grandmother, uncle and aunt. They came over on the Virginia in 1910 and are listed as detained aliens. I believe my grandfather Sebastian came over possibly in 1907 at Ellis but I am having trouble finding the records.

My Fulton NY family has ties with Finocchiaro's in Canastota and Rochester. The families in PA, NJ and elsewhere do not seem to be related unless family records in Giarre, CT prove otherwise.

The information I am seeking may be on film in the LDS centers but I can't reach them easily.

I am looking for info on my great grandfather Angelo Finocchiaro. he was born in October 23, 1855, Giarre, CT. Married in 1881 but don't know where. My grandfather was born the following year.

I would ask anyone that has other ideas how I might obtain the info for suggestions.

I am also seeking info on the following surnames: Scalia, Sciacca, Marano, Tropea, Cali, and Maugeri.

In case it is not already clear, being on the Record of Detained Aliens is almost never an issue of any concern. Usually, it applies to women travelling with or without children but without a spouse of father. See http://www.jewishgen.org/infofiles/manifests/detained/ for useful information.

LDS has listed our great grandfather Angelo some years ago as being descended from a Filadelfo Finocchiaro and a Giuseppa Russo.

Some time ago a family member sent for and received a record confirming that our ggf Angelo was indeed their son born in Giarre CT on 10/23, 1855. However, recent search shows that only a daughter (Catarina) was listed.

We are now questioning the information as to its accuracy. Can someone view the records for us since it may be impossible for our family members to do so?

We are also appreciative of the information concerning our grandfather's arrival in April 1909. It had long been thought that he came over much earlier in order to save up to send for the other family members.

The cousin that he went to stay with in 1909 on the manifest can't be read easily. The name and location are too fuzzy to read. Your assistance would be appreciated in reading who he stayed with.

In the message of Dec. 10 we sought information regarding our ancestors but needed a connection as to how they were related. It may be difficult to figure out since some were located in Giarre, Linguaglossa and now hearing about Passopisciaro.

Dates for Natale Finocchiaro of Linguaglossa are born February 3, 1886 and died in Canastota, NY May 19, 1966

Info on Mariano's father Marcantonio F is also needed. Mariano is believed to have been fro Linguaglossa as well. born September 16, 1877. Perhaps once this info is obtained someone may be willing to assist if not sooner.

Did you ever find any information about the Maranos? I am just starting out and have discovered that my grandmother was Fortunata Marano and she was born in Monteforte Irpino to Domenigo Marano and Filomena Bellocci. This is the only info I have, but maybe it helps.

I have returned after a time away. Research shows that there may be an philadelphus/filadelfo finocchiaro as being direct ancestor born in the 1820s and married possibly in the 1840s. The information was submitted to LDS through an individual that had sent someone to Giarre to view their records.

I do not have the proof of this however. The information is from Giarre but has to be considered hearsay.

The lineage goes from grandfather Sebastiano (wife Carmela Scalia) to ggf Angelo (wife Santa Marano)to the above mentioned gggf filadelfo and (only this year LDS mentions) a Giovanni Battista Finocchiaro b 1800. All of Giarre.

Mike 31 and others have been very helpful. I'm at a standstill since only the LDS has records of only one church that would help me -- St. Isodoro Agricola. There are others but they are not recorded and letters must be sent to Italy to have the proof. Any suggestions on how information could be obtained would be appreciated.

Research is continuing on the family name of Finocchiaro. It appears that when various members arrived here that most went to first contact relatives here and then make attempts at settling down. Some of these relations were not known and only listed on ship manifests.

Common sense seems indicate many established members did not keep in touch with those newcomers.

This has led the family into other states seeking relatives. Also, how do I determine whether an ship manifest is correct? Many missepellings have been foud and frequently the hometowns in Sicily are not correct. Just a convenience to list some area more easily recognized than their actual home town is suspected.

This is just an update on how family research methods are improving.

I was just poking around on a rainy night and came across these post. Someone was looking for information on Mariano and Marcantonio Finocchiaro. Mariano was my great grand father and Guiseppina was my great grandmother. Marcantonio who is actually Mark Antonio Finocchiaro was their son who was my grandfather. All lived in Rochester, NY. Mariano and Guiseppina are buried at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Rochester. Mark Antonio died in 1986 in Mexico. He was married to Alberdiena and had two children; a daughter and a son who is my dad...Mark Mariano
