Hi, I'm unsure as to sections in Italy...for instance, my Grandmother was born in Vico Cosenza, Calabria, then her birthplace is listed as Aprigliano...I understand that Calabria is the region or province . What is Vico Cosenza and what is Aprigliano? Are they boroughs of a city or what?
Also, someone told me that Reggio de Calabria means Region of Calabria, but there's also a city of Reggio isn't there?
Any help would be truly appreciated....
I'm a bit confused

Hi there!!
http://www.lifeinitaly.co.uk/italy/..\I ... taly-C.htm
Cosenza - A town or city in the province of Cosenza in the region of Calabria
Cosenza - A Province in the region of Calabria
Reggio Calabria - A town or city in the province of Reggio Calabria in the region of Calabria
Reggio Calabria - A Province in the region of Calabria
According to my dictionary VICO.... means: narrow street, lane, alley, passage, village, hamlet...

Take a look at the "end" part of the map I linked... and you will see the town of Aprigliano... and just West you will see the word Vico...
Not sure what it means, it does give you the impression that Vico is a name of a town, but if Marco from Milano is reading, he can probably clarify this.
As for Reggio di Calabria... it is right at the toe...

Hope all is well,
and would rather be in Reggio or Vico myself... it must be breathtaking over there...

You explained that perfectly!
Aprigliano is the town.
Aprigliano is in the District of Cosenza whic is all in the Province of Calabria.
Some say it this way, Aprigliano is the town in the Province of Cosenza in the Region of Calabria.
It all depends how they worded it in the document.
Now, the Family History Center does have microfilm that you can order and rent for about $3.50 a roll depending on your location. The microfilm numbers are below.

Re: I'm a bit confused
Yes, mfjp .... I found that Vico is a "frazione" of the town of Aprigliano.
So data should be searched in Aprigliano.
Marco, Milano, Italia
I normally found a lot of information in the Annuario Generale del Touring which lists all italians comuni and frazioniì, and even the old names and borders. Unfortunately it has never been reprinted/updated after 1993 nor has been published on the net.
