Do you recognize this Cambridge, MA, USA TROIANO family?

Post by daniesq »

My family tree research is going swimmingly - except for the Troiano side. My father, who's now deceased, said this was because the Troiano family came over illegally from Sicily through their mob connections. Whatever the reason, I'm having a devil of a time tracing them.

They do pop up on the 1920 census in Cambridge, Massachusetts as follows:

Pasquale Troiano abt 1879
(There are a few Pasquale Troianos born around this time. I believe that this may be the 20 May 1878 Pasquale Troiano based on a WWII draft form in which the wife is listed as Maria.)

Maria Troiano abt 1879

Joseph About 1906
Anthony 02 May 1907 - 07 March 1978 (SSDI)
Rosa About 1910
Angelina About 1911
Anna 06 August 1914 - 06 April 1975 (First-hand knowledge, SSDI)
Frances 1916-1938 (Based on a gravestone from FindAGrave.com)
Frank 07 Aug 1918 -03 Aug 1985

I recognize these names and am certain that this is the family I'm looking for. I plan on ordering birth, death and social security applications for the people above (already have SS for Anna) but I was hoping that someone here might recognize the family and help me locate some long lost cousins. Any information you can provide is most welcome.

In return, I'm happy to provide you with any documentation that I have. (My Troiano family tree on Ancestry is publicly available, which I presume includes my media and scanned documents, but if not, I can always email them to you.)

Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide.

Warm regards,

Wow, Laura, I doff my cap to you! Very impressive! I've been looking for that 1930 census for I don't know how long - clearly you have some mad Ancestry search skilz!

Your information also answers a question that's been plaguing me - who was the Pasquale Troiano listed on Frances' gravestone? Now I know that it was her younger brother.

I am excited to get this added to my Ancestry tree - I hope it will help me find other Ancestry members that are using the same information. Thank you VERY much for your help!

Warmly,

Wow! I don't even have the words to thank you enough. I didn't mean for you to do so much work, but you obviously have a gift for this. In just one night, I think you've made more progress on my family tree than I have in two years! lol

I was amazed that you found birth records. I've been over both the sites you've mentioned tonight (Ancestry, FamilySearch) and have never come close to turning up that information. I'm slightly embarrassed, but very grateful to you.

My hope is to be able to trace this line back at least a few more generations. My husband's line has been traced back to the 1500's - my father's paternal line to the 1300's. It's discouraging that I can't get more than two generations back on this one line! :) I will keep persevering, though. Your work will help a lot, I'm sure.

Again, thank you very much for such wonderful information!!

All the best,

Danielle

:D Don't feel embarrassed Danielle, I'm dedicating my free time to these kind of genealogy researches since 6 years or more.. it's jsut a practice matter and moreover I'm italian so maybe read and interpreting mispelling names and lastnames it's easier for me..

Look at how was mispelled or bad interpreted Frank Troiano's birth:

Massachusetts Births, 1841-1915

Name: Frank Trune
Titles & Terms:
Event:
Birth
Event Date: 11 Mar 1912
Event Place: Cambridge, Massachusetts
Gender:
Race:
Registration Date:
Registration Place:
Christening Date:
Christening Place:
Christening Age:
Death Date:
Death Age:
Father: Patrick Trune
Father's Titles & Terms:
Father's Birthplace:
Father's Age:
Mother: Mary Degrow
Mother's Titles & Terms:
Mother's Birthplace:
Mother's Age:
Paternal Grandfather:
Paternal Grandmother:
Maternal Grandfather:
Maternal Grandmother:
Additional Relatives:
Volume/Page/Certificate Number: 486

Digital Folder Number: 4401716
Image Number: 659

Very often the immigrants used to Americanize their first and lastnames just to better integrate themselves in the "new world"... I believe this is an example of this...

Laura,

I'm exceptionally late in posting a reply, but thank you from the bottom of my heart. I really, really appreciate the information.

I still haven't had any luck tracing either Pasquale or Maria's respective parents, but I will keep digging.

Thank you again!

Danielle
