? ancestor's home town

Post by karenrao »

Looking for info on birth place of my husband's grandfather. Rao is last name. Stefano, Philip, James and Thomas were children. I think parents were Tommaso Rao and Caterina Greco Rao. possibly from Prizzi, Aderno, or Adriano. Would love to find info. the 4 brothers came to America from 1898-1905 or so, but the parents never immigrated. Any suggestions on how to find where the parents were left.

Hello Karen, :D

Here is some information if you haven't seen it.
Until 1929 its official name was Adernò, until eventually it was changed into Adrano. Several elder inhabitants of the town still use to call it Adernò.
This taken from the web site http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aderno

Only my opinion, but after looking at three Petitions for Naturalizations for James, Philip and Thomas, I would look at Prizzi, Palermo for the records of Tommaso and Caterina. http://en.comuni-italiani.it/082/060/index.html

Welcome to the site I agree with Paul page 1 says leaving his wife Francesca in Aderno
On Filippo Rao's manifest 1912 > January > 02 > Taormina > page 2 line 13 going says he was born in Aderno and he was going to see his cousin Vincenzo Rao in NY

And this guess might help with the confusion with the two names Adriano and Prizzi.
Palazzo Adriano

The two comunes are very close to each other.

If the comune your family is from is Prizzi, you can research
the records on film from a Family History Center.
