Hello, forum people. While I am waiting to see if I receive a return e-mail from the records office in Casteldaccia, I thought I would post a question about the origins of the name DIGIACINTO.
I have found that the name GIACINTO is found in more than one province in Sicily, but the name DIGIACINTO occurs mainly in the Palermo province. Family history has said that an ancestor was rewarded for his services to "the monarch of the day" by being made a member of the House of A'Osta, thus earning the right to add DI to GIACINTO. Has anyone heard of the House of A'Osta or have any history of a king associated with that house?

Sorry, folks, I acted too quickly, and now I believe I can be more specific:
Formerly I searched for A'OSTA, but then I saw a picture of the Duchess of Aosta in one of the photo albums on this site. I also found many Aosta links on Google, including one that says "In the 11th cent. Aosta was given as a fief to Count Humbert I, the founder of the Savoy dynasty; the cadet line of the house bore the title of duke of Aosta." (from http://columbia.thefreedictionary.com/Aosta) Thus, I am dealing with a very old House.
I believe I need to look specifically for information on the House of Aosta about 1750, and to see who the king was at that time. Could this be Ferdinando I King Of The TWO SICILIES? Since his father was the king of Spain, might there have been some political turmoil at the time?
