Michele Curcio, Marsicovetere

I am seeking information on my great, great grandfather, Michele Curcio, and his parents and grandparents. He came from Marsicovetere (Potenza) and was born in February of 1847. His parents' first names were Giovanni and Anna. I don't know his mother's maiden name. The 1900 U.S. census lists him as having immigrated in 1865.

If anyone has information that they can share, I would be very grateful.

Yes, that was his second marriage, to the sister of his first wife. His first wife was Vincenza De Marco (sometimes written Di Marco) and died around 1888. I was told by my great-grandmother (Michele's daughter-in-law) that Vincenza and Michele met in Philadelphia. I haven't found a record of their marriage, either there or in the Boston area, where they were probably living by 1868.

I'm trying now to find Michele's birth record in Italy.

I did some looking through the Potenza > Marsicovetere > Atti di Morte records.

Marty, these are great, thanks! I think there is a good chance that they are Michele Curcio's parents. Adding a bit of confirmation is that Michele and Vincenza had a son
that they named John Baptiste Curcio, who was born and died as an infant in 1874.

May I ask which source you used to find this information? I'm new to genealogical searching and have been using mostly familysearch.org.

Ron I used ancestry.com civil records of Potenza > Marsicovetere
I checked some of the marriage records to see if there were any other Curcio's. I came up with a Index #32 1873 Dec 13th marriage of POSSIBLE SISTER OF MICHELE Isabella Curcio age 19( BIRTH ABT 1854) daughter of GIOVANNI BATTISTA AND ANNA TOSCANO marriage to Angeloantonio Briglia age 28 in the town of Marsicovetere

That is another great find. Thank you so much. I didn't know anything about Michele's sisters or brothers. It's also significant that in the record of Isabella's marriage, her father is listed as Giovanni Battista, the first name corresponding exactly to the
father's name listed in the marriage record I have for Michele.

I didn't realize that ancestry.com would have all (or most) of the civil records of towns such as Marsicovetere. It seemed expensive, but it will be worth it if it has information not available on-line through other sources.
