Declaration of Intention

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

Declaration of Intention

Post by CaliDon »

Does the Declaration of Intention constitute the "renouncement of foreign citizenship" or does the Petition for Naturaliztion, the "formal" renouncement of citizenship.
My issue:

My grandfather came to the United States in 1902.
On his Declaration of Intention dated 1942 on line 13, states "I have heretofore made declation of intention: No. ? on 1907-1908 at Waco Texas, in ? (name of court).
My father was born 1922.
He filed his Declaration of Intention and Petition for Naturaliztion on Dec. 3rd, 1942.
On May 25th, 1945 he took the oath of Allegience.
I was born in 1950.

Am I elgible?

Since your father was born in 1922 and your gf did not start the citizenship process until 1942, you are eligible for dual citizenship.

Even if your father was born May 24, 1945, you would still be eligible.
