DiSanto and Salerno families from Abruzzo and Calabria

Post by chloeh »

Hello from a rookie genealogy buff.
I am looking for emigration records for Cherubina Salerno, born 1871, and her husband Nicholas DiSanto, born 1859. One is from Abruzzo and one from Calabria, but I don't know which is which.
They settled in Wayne County New York, and were on the 1910 census, but not the 1900.
I have tried to access the Data Banks on Italian emigrants to the U.S., Argentina and Brazil until I'm blue in the face. All I can get is the timeout message, or the message that it is a private network.
Any help would be appreciated. I want to leave my kids and grandkids a family tree.
God bless,
Carol

According to the 1910 census he entered the USA in 1883 and she in 1887 and they were NA (naturalized) in 1910. All of their children were born in NY (age 1-19 in 1910). Have you looked for naturalization papers? Ellis Island would be a better site to search. I will see what I can find.

Edit:
Sorry, I didn't look at the dates close enough. Ellis Island didn't open until 1892 so you need Castle Garden or Barge Office records. They are available on Ancestry.com (fee) and Castle Garden has opened a new site, but it is not linked to images yet.

Hi Carol,

Here is the information for the 1900 Census, I'm e someone on here will be kind enough and post it for me. (thank you :) )

***There is a Rocco DeSanto, Nicola DeSanto, and Giuseppe DeSanto all on this list.*** (I think the transcriber got confused with the names.)
