Help with Writing to the Town of Avola

Some time ago, the kind folks of this board helped me to translate the birth record of one of my great-grandmothers and I learned that she had been left at the ruota wheel. It was also pointed out that in 1922 it looks like she was officially recognized by her mother. I would like to write to the town and see if I can find out more about this act of recognition and if her parents names would now be listed somewhere.

Could I get some help drafting up an email? There doesn't seem to be a form letter for this sort of request. I think I found the comune's website http://www.comune.avola.sr.it/portale/i ... &Itemid=15 Would this be the correct email address to send it to? anagrafe@comune.avola.sr.it

Her marriage act would contain the recognition and the name of her mother and possible father if he chosen to be known

Thanks for replying so quickly!

I'm glad you mentioned their marriage record. I decided to check Family Search first and was very happy to see that they have added new records since the last time I looked for it in Avola and Augusta (Giuseppe's town of birth). I finally found their marriage banns in Augusta in 1920. Unfortunately it didn't list Giuseppa's parents but it did say that she was living in Siracusa and not Avola, where she was born. Luckily when I looked through Siracusa's records I was able to find both the banns and the marriage record! Still no mention of her parents or any sort of notation that I could see. Now I'm really curious as to why her mother would have officially recognized her in 1922, two years after she got married, moved to America, and had three kids!

I think Avola would still be where I write to for info since the notation is on her birth record and nothing else. What do you think?

The side notation is very hard to read but I doubt that it refers to Giuseppa's recognition by her mother.

I didn't see it at first either but someone made out part of it as 11/25/1922 "...fu riconosciuta dalla madre Scata ..." - "...was recognized by her mother Scata ...". I wish I could remember who told me but this was from around the time there was crash and a portion of the messages on the boards here were lost. Scata would make sense as I was told this was a surname that some, but not all, of her siblings had.

Most of the time is when the parents get married they recognized the child they had and it is shown in the written part of the marriage record saying this child birthdate and index number they are recognizing the birth now that they are officially married
