I am trying to get my Grandfather's birth certificate. Can anyone tell me the correct address for the Castelvetrano communal office (clerk, vital records, etc) to which I should send my request. Any knowledge re: cost of each certificate apostille would be appreciated.
Thanks

You can try sending your request cia email to info@comune.castelvetrano.tp (remove the spaces). Some comuni respond to email; others not so much.
Italian law requires that comuni provide these documents free of charge; they may ask for postage and copying fees, but rarely do.
There are several sites which can help you prepare a letter in Italian to request documents; one is here: http://www.circolocalabrese.org/resourc ... /index.asp

You do not need an apostille for this Italian document to be recognized at the Italian consulate. You will need an apostille for any non Italian document. Each state has different fees for apostilles, you should check their department of state web pages for more information.

Are you saying that when applying for citizenship Jure Sanguinis all documents I submit to the consulate that are of Italian origin can be non-legal paper, e.g. not apostille but all documents of other origin (US) must be certified by the responsible government agency?
Thanks in advance.

Basically, that is correct.Dougo wrote:Are you saying that when applying for citizenship Jure Sanguinis all documents I submit to the consulate that are of Italian origin can be non-legal paper, e.g. not apostille but all documents of other origin (US) must be certified by the responsible government agency?

The ideal documents to request from Italy for dual citizenship applications are called: Estratto Per Riassunto Per Atto Di Nascita/Matrimonio/Morte (respectively, Birth/Marriage/Death). These are typically computer-generated (sometimes handwritten) documents which will have the stato civile official's signature and stamp.

Short answer: Yes, well kind of.Dougo wrote:Are you saying that when applying for citizenship Jure Sanguinis all documents I submit to the consulate that are of Italian origin can be non-legal paper, e.g. not apostille but all documents of other origin (US) must be certified by the responsible government agency?
The Italian documents must be originals, on carte legale or carte integrale (I think it is called - not sure) and not just normal copies, but they don't need the apostille.
The non Italian documents need also be certified original copies, that have an apostille applied.
Re: Commune di Castelvetrano Contact Info
I composed a request for the birth and marriage certs for my grandparents and sent the first request by email to info@comune.castelvetrano.tp. It bounced back. I have the same message in letter form ready to go to
Ufficio dello Stato Civile
Comune di Castelvetrano
Piazza Umberto I n.5
90122 Castelvetrano TP
Italy
I need a good email address for the appropriate office in Castelvetrano and confirmation of the above postal address.
Very much appreciated.

Giuseppe Barresi is the managing director and his email is: g.barresi @ comune.castelvetrano.tp (When you write this address don't type the spaces around the @ symbol)

Re: Commune di Castelvetrano Contact Info
Do you have to write letters in Italian to request birth & marriage certificates?
My thought was that so many countries now have English as their second language.
Would I use that same address to write for Military Records?
Thank you
Judi

If you have trouble getting documents and just want to get them sooner rather than later, I used the services of this very fair, kind and reasonably-priced Sicilian man: giovannimontanti@gmail.com
His charge for documents is below that of the various Web sites online, which charge something like 50 euros/per document. Many of us highly recommend his work!
