Scroll down to New York Marriages, 1686-1980 and input Luigi Mangini and the marriage info is the first record. You will need to play with the search to get more information or you will get sound like names - keep in mind the spelling is quite off on many records so it can be time intensive but is worth it once you get what you need.

As for the Church the marriage took place in - Ask one of the local Churches where they send their old records too. Here they send them to a sort of "Mother Church". Once you know that you may be able to locate the marriage record. I can't remember if you said Rosa claimed her husbands body - if so did she bury him in NJ? You could call the cemetery and see what info the have. This once broke down a brick wall for me.

I'm not Laura, but I can tell that I entered just her name and filtered for "Marriage Place." There were only 9 options in the US, so it made it easy to spot the Rosa that married the Mangini. When spelling is optional (as it always is with US records that include Italian names) less is often more.

I checked the database New York Marriages, 1686-1980 for Luigi Mangini and the first result was for his marriage...

I just came upon this site. My grandmother was Louisa (Mangini) Bevilacqua from the Midvale/Wanaque area. Besides my father Sylvio Bevilacqua ( Bevelacqua) she had thee other children: Amelia ( Budie or Buddie), Mildred, and James (Jimmy). From the previous posts ,I think I also now understand the connection to the Shutte family. When I was very young, I remember visiting the home of Renie and Minnie who were my fathers cousins. I also would like to get any additional information or participate in a family tree. LP

It's been a few years since I've been back here but now I'm glad I came back. It's nice to finally know just who the elusive Budie/Buddie was. My sister told me today that she thought our grandmother, Minnie, had said they were cousins and of course they were. Budie used to help her make her 500 raviolis during the holidays as did Josephine.

I've been contacted just recently by one of the Shutte cousins. Her husband stumbled upon this site a couple of months ago and she then contacted me via ancestry and was shocked at how much info I had put together on her family line. She said I had more than probably anyone. But since my tree has so many guesses on it I keep it private so I don't share bad info however people contact me from time to time and ask to see it and I always let them.

I learned a good deal from this forum...everyone is very helpful as you have read. I had never known that my great grandmother was a Bevilacqua and when my mom was still alive I called her and asked 'what does the name Bevilacqua mean to you?' and she just replied 'Budie' and so did my sister. My sister remembers what she looked like but I don't think I ever saw her or if I did I was so young that it's long gone.

Another one of the Shutte cousins a couple of generations older and I corresponded when my mom was still alive and she shared some info with me. She spoke with her mother who has my grand aunt Renie's Bible and she gave me some info from that. Then she scaned a few pics and emailed them to me so I finally go to see what Rosa looked like. She also had a picture of my great grandfather Luigi. I have no idea what Stephen Shutte looked like but have pictures of all of his boys and some of their families. My sister remembers many of them where I only really remember their names since I was just a young kid then and we moved away when I finished 8th grade.

I've connected with about a dozen different cousins from different families over the past several years and got bits of info here and there. Am trying like heck to fill in some blanks on my Gordon side. Very elusive for some reason. But I finally got a 2nd cousin by marriage to get her mother-in-law to finally open up about my great great grandfather's family line where in the past she had just told her to not be nosey. Then after I phoned her and she told her M-I-L she started remembering things and even wanted me to call her saying I would know these people but I declined. I mean, how the heck would I know anything about my great great grandparents? I only just found out my GGGM's maiden name 2 months ago when my aunt sent me my late uncle's research.

I've done 3 different DNA tests in hopes of breaking down some barriers but all that did was tell me ancient descendency and nothing really that would help me where I need it. I seem to have the same problem on every branch when I get to about my GGGG's and then crickets. Eastern European ancestors are a nightmare as those ancestor women were widowed onece or twice by the time they came to the states so I can only go to my GGGrandmother but don't know how to find anything further. Even the church that owns the cemetery where she is buried strung me along for over a year and then told me their records were poor and said they couldn't help me! They were from the Austro/Hungarian empirea nd those countries changed boundries and names several times that every census it says that they were from a different country.

I just keep plodding along and eventually (every few years) someone contacts me or I find something by dumb luck and get a bit more info. Luckily I enjoy history as much as genealogy so it's all good.

I'm happy to have you check out my tree and suggest any corrections. If I find something on fmailysearch.org I add it and if I find neighbours in a census that have the same surnames many times I just assume they are related (most times they are) and then the tree grows.

But the dead ends are frustrating. Same thing with my mother's Quebec ancestors. My GGGGrandfather was born out of wedlock so when he was baptized there were no parents names lsited so that's another brick wall! But one of his daughters married into a storied family (the Slocums) and that ties into all of history it seems. Kings, queens, saints, poets, knights, Templars, Charlemagne, the Plantagenets and all that entails. One branch even leads through the saxon lines back to Cleopatra. So it's finding things like that which keep me keen to keep on going.

But I've always been intrested in my Italian heritage quite a bit. I know I have made some wrong assumptions with different people but perhaps you can help me a bit there. I found a cousin 2 years ago who also had a Rosa Bevilacqua ancestor that lived on Hook Road and she gave me info and pics on that whole line. Both of their mother's were Rossi's so I think they were sisters. But all of those families followed naming conventions and every kid in every generation had about a dozen kids and they are all named the same thing so it is a bit of a challenge.

And then there is the happenstance such as what you posted in February that I just found that helps to clean things up and correct some errors.

I'm in the process of making a public tree and after the world-wide attack on their site a couple of weeks ago and not having access it kind of irritated me so I cancelled my membership after 6 years effective 16 July. The tree will still be available and I may go back. Or I may try Mocavo or something. I started a tree on familysearch but it really takes a long time on that site so I'm not sure what I'll do yet. Most likely a break for a few months would be a good thing. Some people say I'm more interested in dead people than anything else and I guess that is largely true...

But when I happen upon a new cousin and share some info and stories it makes it all worthwhile. So feel free to contact me. You can contact me through ancestry and I'll give you my email address if you like. I just hesitate to post it herefor fear of massive spamming. I see how people have spammed this site when I was reading last night about the first Italy census. I find it particualarly galling as I'm sure the owners, moderators, volunteers and webmasters must as well. Some people .... well, they deserve what they get - and karma always wins in the end!

Your dad's branch was one I was just asking my sister about a few days ago as I found a couple of census sheets where the surname was suddently listed as Drinkwater. Then some of the ages were off and from what you posted there were extra kids so it must be another Giovanni B. Hopefully you can tell me better when you have a look. I went ahead and deleted the extra kids. I'm guessing now that Giovanni/John died before 1940 and his wife before 1930. At least I haven't found anything to show otherwise.

Looking forward to hearing from you. Sure hope you might have a few pics. You may be pleased with the ones I have acquired over the years.
