Marinaro - Marinaio - Marino

I've familiar with the word Marinaio as an occupation translating to Sailor. I've also seen Marinaro (Seafarer, Sailor) and Marino (Marine) in our records here that have also been translated to Sailor. There's got be a difference somewhere. Does anyone know what the differences might be.

"Marinaio" and "Marinaro" are different spellings of the same word, depending on time and place (often also in the same time and place). Today nobody would say "marinaro"...
I've never heard of "marino" as an occupation

The occupation “marino” is mentioned on the following two records:

No 45: Pittorino Maria Francesco

In the other records Gaetano is referred to as a “marinaro”. I was just wondering whether it might have been a different rank?

I would say that Marino is equivalent of Marinaio and Marinaro.

Thank you for researching online Pippo. I had a look to see if it might be a Sicilian dialect word but it doesn't appear so. They say “marinaru” (marinaio) according to the following: http://www.dialettando.com/dizionario/hitlist_new.lasso
