I'm looking for records of my ancestor named Giovanni Pietro Acqua. He was born about 1726; and on October 12, 1750 married in Germany in the city of Hochheim am Main, with Maria Anna Weninger. In the record is written that he was Italian and the name of his parents were Antonio Giuseppe Acqua and Petronilla.
According to researchers at the University of Mainz, near to Hochheim am Main, most Italians who migrated to the region of Mainz, in Germany, came from the cities of region of the Lake Como and Lake Maggiore, as Como, Sondrio and Chiuro.
Could you help me find this Acqua family in baptism, marriage and death records of the parishes these regions? As the Como city.

The surname Acqua is very rare and today the Acqua families are few and scattered all over Italy, as you can see in the white pages

I have done a lot of research in northern Lombardy and never stumbled on one.
However the surname Dell'Acqua is tipically Lombard. Any chances that your ancestor dropped the initial Dell' when he emigrated?

It is possible that the original writing of the surname has been lost. In Germany, the pronunciation was modified to Akva or Akwa.

The region of the northwest of Lake Maggiore, formed by Alpine valleys, was part of the duchy of Milan but also part of the Swiss Ticino.
