Birth Record for a child given up to foster care parents

Post by sprite1949 »

My grandfather, Raffaele, was given the name Barbarossa by the civil authorities. He later was reclaimed by his unmarried mother, Lucia, who was able to prove he was her biological son. She knew the foster parents who lived in the same town that she took employment after his birth. The family has remained very close to us through all the many decades since 1887. He took her surname at that point as Belvedere. I found this record of his birth and although I can make out a bit of it, I would love to have the actual translation of it to include the document in my family history book. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks very much.

His record is in the middle on the left hand side of the image.

On May 28 1887 in front of the Mayor of Campobasso appeared Felicita Gaetano, aged 52, profession receiver of the foundlings, to present a baby male, apparently 8 days old, who was wrapped in diapers and had as distinguishing mark a light blu ribbon around the neck, with a silver rose (?) and some white daisies. Felicita declared that the baby was found in the foundling wheel at 4am.
The baby was imposed the name Raffaele and the surname Barbarossa and was given to the wet nurse Carmela Di Vincenzpo wife of Domenicantonio Parlova(?) a farmer living in Castropignano.

Side notes:
On October 30 1909 he married Maria Jorio
On JUly 27 1926 he was recognized by Lucia Belvedere (daughter of unknown parents)

Hello Livio...is it permitted to send you hugs and kisses? Thank you from the bottom of my heart for this translation. I am delighted to read this information. On my grandfather's mausoleum burial place, it is given that his birthdate was May 28 1887, while other Italian records found online give the birth date as May 20th. Now, I understand the dates better. This record is so enlightening.

Wow! Your family history site is remarkable and so very interesting! I am in awe of what you have discovered. It is truly a fascinating account of your ancestors. How fortunate that there are also so many photos that you have uncovered. Bravo, sir!

Best Regards, Lucy
