Thank you so much, Marty!!!
I really think it's him, when one keeps in mind that every small region had its own dialect that was (according to that genealogical records book by Trafford that I'm reading) unintelligible elsewhere in Italy, I think he would have married a woman from as close to his birth place as possible (Mary De Martini was born in Lorsica, only a very few miles northwest!)
In any case, I should get the naturalization petition for him in a few days, I'm sure it sheds more light on the circumstances of his birth and immigration, it was 1944 already, after all:)
What I was thinking is that, if my Andrea Monteverde immigrated in 1900, he would have been 19! He would have had military duty at that age, correct? So perhaps he falsified his birth date just a little, to make it harder to trace him (like it's suggested in the book).
Edit: And he might have changed his mother's name on his marriage record for the same reason, to avoid tracing! And his mother was a foundling if I read correctly... makes it easier I guess...

Re: Looking for Monteverde family, Genoa
Hi, I just found out in NY probate papers that my grandfather Domenico Monteverde was born in San Colombano Certenoli, Genoa, Liguria, Italy and his late father (1917) was Giacomo Monteverde. Domenico was born around 1852. He was living on Bleecker St. in Manhattan at the time of his will. Later moved in with his married daughter Anna Marubbio in Brooklyn. Does anyone have a Giacomo Monteverde born ca. 1830? in the town of Certenoli? Domenico was married to Maria Monteverde (her maiden name!) and their children were Luigi, John, Mamie/Marie, Nelly (Macchio), Giulia (Burkland) (died 1926), Abraham, Charles (died 1909) and Anna.
