Ship list 1892 - deciphering the Occupation

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

Ship list 1892 - deciphering the Occupation

Post by stfrancis »

Trying to decipher the "Calling" or Occupation on the following ship list, 1892, very top, Rosa Balsamo, no.. 368, in the calling column, it looks like dum-"drumaker"....but to me this makes no sense, it seems many of the women have this written....

I was thinking maybe, dollmaker, dressmaker...but these dont make sense either...

any ideas would be appreciated, thank you

I agree with dressmaker as well.. Is there a reason you did't think this made sense?

actually it does make sense now that I look at it, only the other 2 dont make sense
I just didnt see the writing, at first, in the way you do, and I didnt think the occupation description would be so specific...
