Cocchiola Family Tree

Post by Uxoiraq »

Hi everyone,

I just joined, so bear with me if I'm doing this wrong.

I'm looking for information on Raphael Cocchiola (1883-1961), his wife Concetta (1884-1959) (I think she was a Cocchiola before she married - WHAT A SCANDAL!), and his brother Rocco (1896-1985?).

I'm actually interested in all the Cocchiola's, but working on that generation right now.

Thanks in advance,

Jim Cocchiola

She was born in Tovella Dei Lombardi, Avellino, on 14 jan 1884, according to another member. Now I need info on her parents.

When presented with a question of who came from Italy to America, I go to familysearch.com

I searched Concetta Cocchiola and found more than a few records pertaining to her, using the information you provided.

Hi Jim and welcome

In case you don't have it, here is Rocco Cocchiola's war draft:

War Draft Rocco Cocchiola says born 5 July 1896 but actually born 6 July 1895: https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1 ... cc=1968530

The birth record lists the same parents of Raffaele Cocchiola- the record Marty located for you:

BIRTH RECORD NO 68; ROCCO COCCHIOLA
Dated 7 July 1895, 9.20 am, Frigento
Carolina Calo', 60yo, Levatrice (midwife), living Frigento, reported that at 10 am, on 6 of the current month (6 July 1895) at a house in Contrada Quarta, No 5, to Angiolina Calo', contadina (peasant farmer), wife of Marco Cocchiola, contadino, living together in this town of Frigento, was born a male baby, who she (Carolina Calo') presented and gave the name Rocco.

Witnesses: Filippo Alberto Testa, 38, Maestro (Schoolmaster) and Rocco De Martino, 46, Sarto (Tailor).

The record says at the bottom that the midwife reported the birth in place of the husband (Marco) because he was far from the town.

Do you know when Concetta and Raffaele married? I looked through the indices of both towns but couldn't locate. Maybe they were married after 1910? elsewhere?

Hi Angela,

They may have been married in the US. Probably Waterbury CT, but I haven't been able to verify that yet. The family folklore says they came over, had my grandfather (Vernon Anthony), went back, then he came over when he was 14 or so, but that may all be wrong, I don't know yet.

Thanks for the info on Rocco!

You are very welcome, Jim.

Here's the 1930 census for Concetta and Ralph Cocchiola, listing their eldest child as being born in the US (circa) 1906. The issue is that it says that "he" immigrated in "1902" and she immigrated in "1915"? All the children listed were born in the US according to this census. They were 22 and 21 when they married, according to the census, so must have married in 1905 in the US. I notice that there is almost a ten year birth gap between Charles and Rose, so maybe, just Concetta returned to Italy, taking Vernon and Charles back with her??????? (To me, "it looks like" Concetta did make a trip from Italy to the States in both 1902 and 1915 and settled after the second voyage? It would be great to find her passenger record to confirm this.)

There was a Concetta Cocchiola, aged 19 (1884), single, last place of residence, Torella dei Lombardi, arriving New York 10 June 1903, going to see her brother Antonio at 614 Baulo? Street, Waterbury. Does that sound like her? It seems to match the birth record that Marty found.
