Re: de Avino, Carmela Death #48
Here goes, my first shot at this, so take with a grain of salt.
29-April-1875 8:15 AM at the town hall before me Federico [?] Legretiaro delegate of the mayor, registrar of the city of Frigento, appeared Pasquale Banando, age 56, contadino (farmer), living in Frigento, and Mariano Giovanniello, aged 30, contadino, living in Frigento declared that at 6:20 AM yesterday in the house #17 Via Lau Pietro, Carmela de Avino died, age 53 years, contadina (farmer's wife), living in Frigento, born in Frigento of the late Michalangelo, contadino, who livied in Frigento and the late Maria Cochiola, contadina, who livied in Frigento, wife of Carmine Famiglietti.
Witness by Raffaele Famiglietti, age 50, lecatore (??) and Giuseppe Capobianco, age 26, barbiere (barber), residents of this city.
Sorry, couldn't decipher Raffaele's occupation.
Hope it's close!

Thanks - now I see the S is not a L. What is a "secatore"?mmogno wrote: .....before me Federico Testa Segretario delegate of the mayor.....

I checked my occupation word list and asked google to translate.
Closest match I could find was sanatore (healer).
The occupations are interesting, and nice way to understand where people fit in the community. Of course, all of my ancestors are either contadino/-a or agricolo/-a.

Re: de Avino, Carmela Death #48
I might be wrong but I believe "secatore" = "segatore" = "taglialegna" hence "woodcutter"

Taglialegna, detto anche secatore. Munito unicamente di un'accetta, garantiva servizio a domicilio anche in città per le piccole operazioni di rifornimento invernale delle fornaci e dei camini.

From previous discussions with fellow volunteers, my understanding has been that a secatore is a person who saws wood or timber. Secatore - Sawyer.
