De Sio Family
De Sio Family
I am looking for people from the De Sio (or DeSio, De'Sio) Family, from the Salerno area. Here is a brief idea of my family tree:
Felice De Sio + Unknown (some relatives say "Madeline Olive") =
1. Alfonso De Sio (b. 1885) + Maria Castelluccio = children
2. Antonio De Sio (b.1888) + 1. Amalia = Alfonso De Sio
+ 2. Anna Coralluzzo = Luigi, Amalia, Giuseppe, Felice, Teresa, more...
3. Concetta De Sio (b. 1908/9 d. 1920's)
Alfonso went to live in America (PA), Antonio lived in America for a short time but stayed in Italy (some of his children moved to England) and Concetta died young.
Record for Antonio and Alfonso can be found on the Ellis Island website.
If anyone can help me find information, I will be most greatful,
Dan

Dan,
Did you post on ancestry.com, family tree section? There's a Concetta De Sio on the family trees, married to Joe Bologna. Children are:
Mary Bologna F
Theresa Bologna F
Joe Bologna M
Dennis Bologna M
Parents of Concetta are:
Alfonzo De Sio born Dec 7, 1885 and Mary Castelluccio born Sept 8 1891. Alfonzo's father is listed as Felice De Sio.
Waiting for your feedback!

Re: De Sio Family
Hi Dan,
On Ellis Island, there are two Alfonso DeSio.
1. Sio,Alfonso De Faidino, Italy 1910 25 1885
Per this manifest, he was born in Faiano, and was going to go see his brother, Antonio.
2. Sio,Alfonso De Pontecaguano, Italy 1912 27 1885
Per this manifest, he was from Salerno asn was going to a brother-in-law's.
However, from poking around the town should be
Pontecagnano Faiano, Salerno, Campania
There isn't any microfilm for the town, therefore, you would have to write directly if you want any documents such as Birth, Marriage, or Death Acts of your ancestors.
Here is the address for the town.
Ufficio Stato Civile
Comune di Pontecagnano
Prolungamento Marconi Sn (via)
84098 Pontecagnano SA
Here is a link that will help you translate your letter into Italian.
http://www.circolocalabrese.org/resourc ... civile.asp
Here is the official web site of the town.
http://www.comune.pontecagnanofaiano.sa.it/
I hope this helps for now.

Hi Again,
Do you have the manifest for Antonio? Would like to see it. It would be proof as to where the family is definitely from.
Have a good one.

Re: De Sio Family
Hey Guys!
Thankyou very much for your help. I have seen the manifests for Antonio and Alfonso on Ellis Island, but I haven't tried to write a letter, thankyou for your advise. Futhermore, I have noticed the records on Ancestry but I am unaware as to who posted the family info (it wasn't me!), so that would be interesting to find out. Unfortunately, as I am not a member of the site I cannot find any more information from the records.
If you have anymore advise, tips, useful sites or general information I would very greatfully appriciate it!
-All the best, Dan.

I'm sure someone here in the group will link the census records for you. I still didn't learn how to upload them even though MFJP gave me lessons on how to do it.

However, most major libraries have access to Ancestry.com as well as most major Family History Centers have access too. It's free to use, all you have to do is pay for the copies you print out.
Also, can you give us the year of Antonio's arrival? I'm just curious.
Hope this helps

Re: De Sio Family
Hi Trish,
Antonio's arrival:
June 09, 1909
at Ellis Island
going to Pennsylvania
sailed on the Konig Albert
from the Port of Naples
Thanks for your encouraging words! I will definately try a family history centre or a library, and hope that the ones here in the UK are as reliable as those in the States.
Also, I do hope that someone on the site will be able to aid me in presenting me with cenus information.
Also, do you have any idea where I might find newspaper articles from the 1920s and 30s, from the Salerno area? For, you see, the De Sio family endured the attacks of a gun-man in 1929 (or onwards). An article might shead light on vital facts, but where to find it is mysterious.
I must, again, thankyou as I have decide to send a letter, addressed to the above mentioned location. Hopefully that will prove to be a source of results.

Re: De Sio Family
Hi Dan,
Now I do have a comment to make and VJ will agree with me for we both discussed it. The ship's manifest of Antonio states he was from the town of Montecorvino Pugliano which is also in the Salerno Region.
On Page 1 of the manifest it states Antonio left his father, Felice, in Montecorvino P.
Here is the address for Pugliano
Ufficio Stato Civile
Comune di Pugliano
Giuseppe Rossi 17 (via)
84090 Pugliano SA
Here is the official website of Montecorvino Pugliano
http://www.comune.montecorvinopugliano.sa.it/
I find it very interesting that they were from two different towns. You will have to double check both towns to obtain your proof as to which town they are from.
There are always possibilities such as they could have been visiting a town and/or living in a neighboring town so don't get discourage, least you have great clues to try to obtain records.
I hope this helps

Re: De Sio Family
Trish, great advice!
I was pretty stuck on the two locations in Salerno for Alfonso & Antonio.
Why not write both locations?
As far as the census, I can look for both brothers, but I can't post them - too tricky for me.
Thanks! Valarie

Re: De Sio Family
Dan, this doesn't happen often (not this easy), but here's Alfonso's naturalization information (last name on the page). He was living in Chambersville, Indiana, PA
