Italians living in Tunisia

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

Italians living in Tunisia

Post by janstwin »

I am looking to find birth and marriage records for my husband's Italian relatives who lived in Tunsia. My mother in law was born there in 1935, her name is Natalina Carmela D'Alessandro. She married a US Marine (Maurae W Mitchell) sometime before 1955.

Natalina's mother is named Maria Stella Piccarella. I am also looking for her birth and marriage record. She married Emanuele D'Alessandro. They both died here in the United States. Their death certificates list Sfax as their birthplace.

Thank you for any help you can give. I'm new to genealogy and feel overwhelmed at trying to follow my husband's line.

Hi
The online database for the Diocese of Tunis has the Baptism of one Emmanuel D'Alessandro, born in Sousse in 1898 son of Crocifisso and Carmela Tanturella or Tandurella or Tandurello. Other children of this couple were born in Sfax.
Another Emmanuele D'Alessandro, son of Sauveur (French for Salvatore) and Piccione Natala was born in Sfax in 1904

Also
Maria Stella Piccarello born in Sfax in 1910, daughter of Giuseppe and Biagia Campo

This site (in French) has also the directions for asking the original documents from the Diocese

Good luck with your search!

Hello, I’m looking for my grandfather and his siblings, his father and mother. My grandfather’s name is Emmanuele Madonia, his father was Santo Madonia and mother was Vita (née Liotta). Emmanuele was born in 1898 in Camporeale, Sicily, his mother and father emigrated to Mateur, Tunisia, with him in 1900 where they had three more children, all girls. Emmanuele died in 1959 just before he was due to emigrate to Australia. He is buried in Tunisia.
I’d like to find his siblings or their children. Can anyone help? Thank you.
