Marriage record without parents?

From my basic and I mean very basic Italian, it seems like the male doesn't know his parents?? why and how could that be for a marriage record.

He was born a foundling the name Esposito is a foundling name no parents came forth to recognize him as their child (ignoto)

Okay. Does this mean the lineage for him stops right with his birth? Meaning I will never know his parents or any other information on his ancestors?
