Occhiogrosso from Bitetto

Ok - what explains it is the 5th post in this thread. The copy of the manifest shows 407 7th Avenue. Directly under the link Biff copied something (I assumed from Ancestry) with a different address 149Throop Avenue.

So I am assuming that Biff didn't make an error and that either
1. Ancestry has 2 addresses
2. the manifest has 2 addresses

What do you think?

Here we go, this may help, nothing like a picture!



Line 16 is lined out, but the address 407 -7- Ave Brooklyn NY wasn't lined out.
Line 16 should read:
"his son De Marinis Tommaso
407 - 7 - Ave Brooklyn, NY"

Line 17 is the one for Domenico Occhiogrosso,
it should read
"his brother Occhiogrosso Antonio
149 Throop Av. Brooklyn"

Ok - understood. I was wondering about that Providence and underneath it said R.Y. I was thinking R.I. for Rhode Island.

Also 149 Throop Avenue makes much more sense from what I know of the neighborhoods at the time. 407 7th Avenue I think was more of a "rich" neighborhood as it was near Prospect Park.

BTW - I just hung up with my uncle from NY but he seemed a little confused. I asked him about the uncle Mario Santomaria that my grandmother stayed with and he said - "What you don't remember Sumarry?" Of course he rolled those r's like only an Italian can do!
It was like another blast from the past - I do remember the name. It so wierd but I get the distinct feeling that my grandmother is behind me pushing me and prodding me on.

Sometimes I think typed manifests can be more confusing than written ones.
No doubt about it, your ancestors are giving you a nudge !

I asked my uncle about Squicciarrini. He couldn't remember how we were related to them or IF we were but if this helps you:
He said there were 2 families that lived in Brooklyn right in the same neighborhood where he lived.

He said 1 Squicciarrini family lived on Jackson Place and the other Squicciarrini family lived on 7th Avenue. Both of these addresses are in Brooklyn, NY.

I'm going to see him next month when I go home. I'll see if he can remember any of the names. It was too difficult over the phone.

My Mother Marie was a Bitetto and her Father was Nick Bitetto from the Bronx.
My Grandfather Nick died when I was very young so I don't recall if he was directly from Italy. I did see that a Niccolo Bitetto did arrive at Ellis Island in the early 1900's. Does anyone know of him?

Hi! My grandfather, Frank Occhiogrosso, was born in Italy (I was told Bari) in 1888. He came to America and had my father, Dominic Occhiogrosso. He had a brother Tom Occhiogrosso who also lived in the USA. I often heard that maybe I had relatives in Brooklyn, where I was actually born, 64 years ago, in Cumberland Hospital, with my twin brother, Frank (named after our grandfather!). We lived in the Bronx for about twenty or so years where my grandfather, Frank did. I read that there was possibly also two sisters. My sister is Angelina, named after? Not sure! Anything to add? Comment? Ciao!

I don't know that we had any relatives living in the Bronx, but all the names you mentioned Angelina, Frank, Tom, and Dominic are all names that I think are typical of that area at that time - including Giacomo (Jack) and Jenny. I think you should start your own thread so that you can get some people to really help you. Best of luck.

Hi my grandparents were occhiogrosso. My grandfather was Dominick from Bari biteto. Wonder if we are related? Dominicks mothers maiden name was squicirini which I saw in earlier posts.

I received a full family tree dating back to 1700 from Italy when doing my research in college about 30 years ago. I'd be happy to mail anyone a copy if they would like. Apparently a relative worked in the registrars office and someone had compiled the info. We are related to the singer Vic Damone!
