Maurizio,

You underestimate your command of the English language. I only hope that one day my Italian will be close to your command of the English language.

I have also enjoyed these tender letters. What a treasure to have. YOu also gave some insight on the original author of the letters when you commented on his skill in the Italian language and phrasing. You explained how many of his generation did not have these skills.

Thank you for taking the time to translate for the poster and sharing them online with all of us.

Dear Airborne,

I'm not sure if you still check this thread, but I just wanted to say that I too come from Bertolinos in Locana!

My nonna (Yolanda Maria Bertolino) came to the US in 1921 with one of her sisters and her mother, and her father (Giovanni Antonio Bertolino) had come with her other sister a few years earlier. But wow! You have some amazing resources there, how wonderful. I'm still trying to locate a few things in Locana, namely my grandmother's birth certificate, and am having some trouble with that....but maybe I'll get lucky soon in some way like you!

Anyway, glad to see another Locana Bertolino kicking around on here!! :)

Hi Marty!

Thanks for your response! She was born June 6 1906 (though that's never actually been confirmed). I did try looking through those once before and couldn't find hers, as I think maybe the birth records are cut off at 1900? Or perhaps I was doing something wrong! Maybe there are other records there to look at that could also contain birth records? If you have any tips, I would so appreciate it!

I have also tried writing to the commune a couple of times, but haven't heard back...may be time to save up for a trip to the records over there!

Thanks again,
Carolann

Greetings. I had to make a new account since I couldn’t reset my password.. but looking for new information..

Im trying to locate records on my great grandfather, Giacomo Antonio Bertolino (1890) who served in WWI with the Alpini Troops. He was from Locana.

I believe he may haave served with the 4th Alpini based on his discharge papers listed here: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v476/ ... AN0008.jpg

Im interested in where he may have served as well as battles he may have been in.

I also have several of his letters he wrote his girlfriend who ended up becoming my great grandmother.

Who would I contact to get some of these records?

My other post in regards to my family here:

Thank you in advance!

Ciao
