double birth certificates (?)
My name is Allegra Mafalda Scetbon, daughter of victor and marie Scetbon
me and my father had italian passports.
Victor was born on 05/21/1902 in Monastir in Tunisia.
Marie was born as marie Salfati in 1902 in the city of Beja in Tunisia, and died around 1939 in tunis, tunisia.
I was born in Tunis, Tunisia on 29/11/1929
I have my birth certificate that I received from service central de l'état civil à
nantes.
i have talked the italian embassy , they said i need to get my italian birth certificate .
does it possible that i have two birth certificates ? , if i do
how should i get my italian one ?
they said i need to check with state of livorno , maybe my record is there , but they did not replayed me by mail .
somebody know how can i find my italian birth certificate?
Best regards,
Allegra Mafalda Scetbon

Hello Allegra!
It seems strange that you would have two birth certificates...if you weren't born in Italy then why would you have an Italian birth certificate? Where were your grandparents from in Livorno? Perhaps your birth was registered somewhere when your parents applied for an Italian passport for you. You may need to call the comune where your grandparents lived and speak to them direct. I have tried to email many different comunes and state archives here in Italy without any success. I find you get a better response if you call them on the telephone. Good luck in your search Allegra!

But my ggf and ggm maybe was born in Italy
As i understand , jews who was living in this time in tunisia . their family came from livorno
I tried to contact the emmbasy of italy in tunisia but they didnt replay either...
This is the massgae i got from the emmbasy when i have sent them this document:
Please HelpDear mrs. Sectbon,
Unfortunately with such certificate we cannot do anything. As u can read on our website, (and attachment) in order to present the request to be considered Italian by birth is to present the original birth certificate (or transcript of it) issued in the original Italian city.
Without the old Italian passport u are unable to know for sure what was the Italian city where the birth certificate has been registered.
I suggest you to try to contact directly the city hall of Livorno (where many jews from middle east have been registered) and the Italian Embassy in Tunis.
Once u get this transcript of ur birth certificate from Italy send it to us by email and we will manage to let u know what Israeli certificates you will need .

What about contacting the Livorno Hebrew Society? They may be more willing to help you and they may have knowledge of your surname and where your family came from:

Re: double birth certificates (?)
I believe it is possible to have two birth certificates. Americans who have taken Italian citizenship can get a copy of their 'Italian' birth certificate as part of the citizenship process is to register all birth and marriages with the Comune of origin. The same would apply to anyone born outside Italy who was entitled to Italian citizenship. I have seen in Parte II or maybe III, birth and death certificates which came from other countries. IF your parents registered your birth with the Consulate in Tunis, then it would have been sent to the town of origin of the parents.

If you and your father had Italian passports then your births must have been registered in Italy. In some communities births registered via the Consulate were not placed in the register of the year of birth but in the register of the year of registration which can be many years later. You may need to hire someone in Italy to go to Livorno and check the years from your birth to the date your passport was issued in order to find the birth certificate.

Maybe some one on this site will contact you privately. I don't cover the Livorno area. Choose someone who lives close to Livorno or you will be paying high travel costs.

This is something you have to figure out first. Check my website for tips. Contact the Consulate. If you have a nephew born in Rome then maybe you need to follow his family until you find your father's town of birth.
