French Canadian Birth Record

On the USA 1900, 1910, & 1920 censuses, relative list birth place as French Canada & born March 1890. Would that be "only" Quebec? Is there anyway to find this record?

I believe this term refers to Canadians with a French heritage. They most likely are from Quebec, but could be from Nova Scotia, PEI or New Brunswick (known once as Acadia). I believe Quebec is most likely though. Here's a link for an explanation that might help.

The name is Rosa DiPierro (many variations) born March 1890 French Canada, daughter of Pietro DiPirro & Anna Maria Bufano (Bifano). They had a son born Dec 1883 Italy, so I believe they came to Canada between 1884 & 1890. They then moved to Chicago prior to 1900 census (can't read migration date on 1900, 1910, 1930). This is a line from Armento, Italy & can't find Pietro's naturalization record in Cook County, IL.

I may have found the record you have been looking for but there a a few discrepancies. The date is off but that's not unusal. If it's your Rosa, she was born in Ontario..actually not far from where I live. This used to be known as York (a county/town of the City of Toronto), now we are the Greater Toronto Area. Regardless, its near here.

Its an interesting document. Rosa was delivered by a midwife. They lived at 216/2 Chestnut Street and her birth was registered on March 12, 1870.

I can't believe you found this so fast and yes, it could really be her. Parents name except for spelling seem to match. Date of filing March 12, 1870 (1890?) could very easily = b. Mar 1890 on census record. Birth records for children born in the States also show midwife. Could "Boparie" be French pronunciation?

Is there any online immigration records available for Toronto?

Great information, but unfortunately wrong family. Possibly a cousin or nephew.

1900 Pierro, Pietro & family living Ward #19, rear 78 Ewing St. Pietro is 42 (Aug 1857)& Anna Maria is 40(Sep 1859), mother of 8, 6 living. Their children were Vito 1883, Rosa 1890, Mary 1894, Catarina 1896, Michael 1897, & Elizabeth 1899. My husband's grandmother, Maria Giuseppe DiPierro (Mary) was born @ this address. Her birth record shows them coming from Armento, Italy.

1910 I have but need to dig out to know what name listing was found under.

1920 DePero, Petro & family (Mike & Elizabeth), living 1519 Taylor St. Pietro is 62 and widower.

1930 census can't find him. According to his death certificate, he was living with his daughter Rose (b. 1890). She married a Pasquale Lombardi in Chicago. I found them on the 1920, but not 1930.

1910 & 1920 were very hard to find. They didn't come up on any of the spelling variations I tried nor by his first name. Finally figured out the ward # they should be in & then went page by page!

I don't have access to the images any more, but if you do find them, I would appreciate a second pair of eyes for the migration date. It's strange, but on the 1920 census, Rose Lombardi has 1884 as her migration year, 6 years before she was born. Thinking this is the year her parents migrated to Canada, since her brother, Vito, was born Dec. 1883 Italy.

Joyce, do you think the birth document is the correct one at least? I will try to locate the census records and post for you. This additional information helps.

I found Rose and Pasquale Lombardi 1930 census. Peter wasn't on it.

They were living on S. Rasvine Ave(?). Rose has 1893 as her Immigration date on this census. On the 1920 census, she is naturalized by 1907 through her husband. I think the census taker meant to write 1894, not 1884...

Thanks for the 1930 info on Rose. Guess Pietro hadn't moved in yet or they just didn't include him.

Yes, I found the family tree and contacted. No relationship, just an X brother-in-law!

I'll see about digging out page numbers for the census records so you can find & view. I usually wrote down the ancestry page # and the actual #. Hope I did it with these.
