I'm fairly new to Genealogy, I've been trying to find the name of my great-Grandfathers Father and mother since i was 18, there is a family lore that i'm finding hard to correlate with what i know about My great-Grand Father, i know this may be lengthly but i'd appreciate anyones input, My Great-Grand Father Vito Galante (He also went by Joseph Galante) immigrated to the USA in 1905 from Santa Ninfa, i have found him in the 1910 census in NYC living with his "brother" Pietro Giordano under the name Joe Galante From records found on ancestry (Immigration papers) he came over on the same ship with his "Brothers" mother-in-law, from Santa Ninfa italy he states he is going to either see his "brother-father" the document is hard to read they list Pietro Galante as the contact in america. I can confirm that the Joe Galante living with the Giordano's is Vito Galante based on the Ship name he gives that he arrived on.
My trail runs pretty plenty from there i have him and his wife in the 1920 census living with his children and my records are pretty good there on out.
I how ever have no access to italian records outside of my ancestry subscriptions have found that it is pretty much proving to be useless seeing as i believe he was either a Foundling or he changed his name when entering the USA.
The family lore goes like this 4 children are born to the Di steffano's barons child (Michele) and his maid who's family name is Allegatto, they give these children to different families to raise, Galante, Giordano, And Allegatto (this is apparently the name of the maids family) the 4th family is un-known, my great-grand father's naturalization papers are singed by a michael Allegatto.
There is a woman on here who has the same exact family story with me, we have been trying for years to either prove or disprove this story.
I tested with 23andme back in 2015,my father was tested in 2017 i got his results today, i uploaded our results to Ged-match, as well as FTDNA.
my most closest match on 23andme was a man named KD he was predicted as my 2-3rd cousin he shares 1.93% DNA with me and he was anonymous at first (assuming he tested many years prior to the re-do of the site) he gave me only this information "My fathers family came over from dorchester in the 1600's My mother is from Santa Ninfa and her family name is Allegatto she had two brothers a Michael and a teddy"
This man has to be much older then me i am only 31.
He claims to not know the name of his mother's mother.
I'm 100000% certain that he has got to be a child of my Great-Grandfathers sibling because he does not fit on any-other side then my fathers paternal side,(I have matched with people on 23 and me with the maiden name of my paternal Great-grandmother's family name Sinacori so he can't be the maternal line) Could this be the name of my Great Grandfather's Mothers family? is there enough DNA there to successfully say i have found his mothers family?
I can't find Vito anywhere in the italian births for the year and date of his birth, I can't even find his marriage to Rose Sinacori. I've hit a brick wall. If anyone can help me i'd seriously appreciate it!

Re: Trying to find the parents of my Great-Grandfather
Thank you so much marty for taking the time out of your day to find my Great grandpa and Grandmas records.
Would you happen to know where i could find the adoption records or find out who adopted him or where he went after he was registered.

Re: Trying to find the parents of my Great-Grandfather
Its very tough finding info on foundlings sometimes they are recognized as their child by the birth parents by the time of his marriage but this not the case as it is not shown on the marriage act

Re: Trying to find the parents of my Great-Grandfather
You might want to read Angelo Coniglio's book about foundling's in Sicily. There are also articles on my blog you might find interesting. In this case the child was taken to the City Hall for registration by the midwife. Her name was Vita, the child was named Vito, and she was given the child to assume responsibility for the feeding and care. He was probably returned to his natural parents who then received a small stipend for taking care of a foundling, or to a grieving mother who had just lost her own child. I would bet on the former in this case.
