Marriage of Antonio Vona & Giovanna Catalano 1783

Post by sacesta »

Can someone take a stab at the bride's father's given name on this record of marriage? It's the middle record on the right side. Thanks.

Here's Giovanna's death record. Her father's given name appears to be something like Jo Baptistae. Is the Jo an abbreviation of Joseph or Jacopo or something similar?

Jo(hannes) Baptistae would be Latin for the Italian Giovanni Battista, sometimes expressed in Italian as Giovanbattista or Giobattista for John the Baptist.

A couple of links that will help with Latin church records:

I'm embarrassed. The answer is so obvious. Of course Jo Batistae stands for Giovanni Battista, or John the Baptist. Thanks for your help!
