First I have to say, VJ - GREAT WORK!!!:)

Now the Family History Center does have microfilm for the town of Lusiana, but it's very limited. 1809-1815 and then again from 1872-1899. On the film you could find Birth, Marriage, and Death Acts of your ancestos, however, since it's limited you should be able to find the Birth Acts of Pietro Garzotto and Anna Covolo.

Here is a link for the film numbers.

Here is Pietro's WWI Draft Card Information.
Name: Peter Garzotto
City: Not Stated
County: Butler
State: Pennsylvania
Birth Date: 15 Mar 1881
Race: White
Roll: 1877746
DraftBoard: 2

I hope this helps,
Trish
Hi There,

Did you try the microfilm from the Family History Center? Since you know Pietro was born in 1881, you can order the microfilm for that year and view his Birth Act.

I hope this helps,
Trish

Madonna,

I have to ask. Do you have your grandparents' death certificates? If not, obtaining them may provide parent info and birth date and town of birth in Italy.

How do you know the Garelli's were cousins of Anna Garzotto?
Madonna,
I apologize, I meant Pietro's cousins:
on page 913 of the manifest it says they are joining their 'cousin Pietro GAZZOTTO'

Have you come across their names before?

Thanks! Valarie

No, I don't have my grandparents death certificates.

No, I've never heard of the Garelli cousins.

Thanks everyone for all your help. I'll keep searching...

If you know date of death & county of death, you can write the county clerk
for death certificates. These records could really help you in your search.

So the death certificates will have the names of parents of my grandparents?

Depends on who the informer (one giving the info) was & how much he/she know about the person. Like my grandfather died before my grandmother & she was the one who provided the death certificate information. She know his parents, exact birth date & place of birth. With this info, I checked LDS films and found his parents' birth, marriage and death records plus much more.

Hope this helps. Good luck in your research.

I found a Rocco Garzotto who founded a candy company in Vicenza and I'm wondering if I'm related to him. Could he be a great or great great grandfather?

He could be, but he also could a uncle or nephew ( or a great u or n) to your grandparent.

My suggestion would be record the info & note source, but take it on step at a time. Interview living relatives. See what they know. Your parents(Are they living?) should know the names of their granddparents & maybe more about them. If parents are not living, contact aunts, uncles, siblings and cousins. Remember to always work backward in time (ex: grandparents>great, grandparents & so on........). Working this way, you will be able to identify the relationship of Rocco Garzotto.

hope this helps

jcsm,
You're very helpful. Thanks. My parents are both deceased and I have only a two living aunts and one uncle, all residing in Pennsylvania, all in their 80s. I live in California.

Glad to help. Try writing your aunts & uncle for family information. You might be surprised at what they remember! I have a half great aunt (her father was my great grandfather) born 1911 who has provided me with a lot of information on my family. She is truly a treasure trough!!!!!!!

Let us know how your research is going & post if you need any more help.

jcsm,
I just talked to all three living relatives. None of them seem to have any documents from my grandparents, but I did get the correct spelling of my paternal grandmother's maiden name...Felicina Maltagliotti.
She was born in Tuscany around the late 1890s and came across to the States when she was between 9 and 15 years old.
Any info you can find on her history would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again.

Hi Again,

Did you know the death dates of your grandparents? If you do and they died in Pennsylvania, then send away for the death certificates. Here is the link for New Castle, PA in order to obtain death certificates. These documents could have clues on them.

Trish,
That is strange. I suppose they could have mistaken a 7 year old girl for a boy, what with the language barrier and all. Maybe that was her. I couldn't get through to the link you posted. It asks for a password, etc.
Does it say who this child was traveling with? Another Maltaglioti perhaps?
