Could someone please translate birth record number 121 for me? I am pretty sure this is my husband's grandfather's half brother. As I understand it, Pasquale's mother passed away at the time or shortly after.

Re: Battista birth record
Birth No 121: Pasquale Andrea Battista
Chiaromonte: 26 December 1879
Caterina Civale, 60, midwife, living Chiaromonte, reported that at 9.15 am, on 23 December 1879, in a house in Via Alighieri, No 13, from Maria Rosa De Salvo, wife of Vincenzo Battista, both peasant farmers (contadini) living in this town, was born a baby boy who was not presented, and given the name Pasquale Andrea.
Witnesses:
Raffaele Pesce, 26, falegname (jointer/carpenter), and Egidio Ronga, 40, contadino.
Not verbatim (I can't catch all the words): The declarant (Caterina Civale), who had assisted with the birth, registered the birth in place of the husband, who was away from the town. The baby was not presented to the official because of the (inclement?) weather (a dispensation was given from doing this).

Incidentally, the correct spelling is Chiaromonte, and it is in the province of Potenza, Basilicata.

Thank you Angela and Mmogno,
I noticed there was a bit more hand written at the end of the form than many I have viewed before. Was that because the child was not presented? Is it usual for the age of all the participants to be shown but not the age of the parents?
Thank you again,
Karen

Re: Battista birth record
Happy to help. Yes, that would be why, in this case, there is more hand written info at the end of the Act. Yes, the age and occupations of the witnesses and declarants are normally included. The reason why the parent's details are not given in this case is because it was the midwife who registered the birth. She may not have known the father's age and occupation? The father's age, occupation and sometimes the name of his father are normally included. Sometimes the mother's age etc are given but not always. It depends on the town and the timeframe.khoney wrote: 08 Jun 2017, 19:01 Thank you Angela and Mmogno,
