Giannini Family of Lammari, Lucca, Tuscany
I have been working on my family tree for a few years now, but cannot find any information on my great-great grandfather. His name is Giovanni Battista or "Battista" Giannini. As far as I know he was a farmer in Lammari. He and his wife Emilia had 4 sons and 3 daughters - Giuseppe, Americo, Guglielmo, Alfredo, Emilia, Amida, and an unknown daughter.
If you have any information that could possibly be useful, it would be greatly appreciated. I have run out of clues and could certainly use any potential help.

Marty,
This was an extremely helpful starting point! How were you able to find that document without searching slide by slide?

In searching Italian civil records you have birth(nati) death(morte) marriage (matrimoni) by year most go from 1866-1910 some towns have other years. Indexes are found at the beginning or end of the year you are searching by index number and surname. There are also multi year indexes which combine 5 or 10 years of indexes.
So most of the time just look in the index for the name you are are searching for in that year you are searching then find the index number and go back in that year and find the record with that number on it.
Sometimes there are no indexes at all then its page by page search by year but just because one year has no index doesn’t mean all years don’t have a index
Births have 3 records per image most of the time marriages have 2 records per image deaths have 4 images per image sometimes records are single pages depends how they were photographed by the FHL Family History Library
Babies are born then presented to the civil official of the town usually within a few days of birth for entry in the birth registry that’s why the difference in dates on the record If there is a problem and they cant register the birth act until much later they are entered in the Parte 2 for that year usually in the rear of the records and that record is usually handwritten. Sometimes there are sidenotes with marriage or death information or if the act has a mistake in it a correction to those mistakes
Marriage records include birth town, ages, occupations, parents names and if they are deceased which is very helpful in record searching
Death records have the age of deceased also the parents names and if they were married and to whom and usually town of birth usually not the cause of death
Civil records are signed by the civil official and 2 witnesses not usually family members
The indexes for the churches in Italy of baptism and marriage and death are arranged by first name first (later years last name first) by year and date of the act and page and record number. Just find your person in the index and go back to the records to find the act you

I am researching Maria Elisabetta Giannini that was born in Frazione Lammari, Cappanori , daugther of Francesco Giannini. She got married to Giovanni Antonio De Luca. They had the following children born in Lucca: Maria Anna (1840) ; Emilia (1843) ; Vincenzo (1851) ; Maria Domenica (1854); Giuseppe (1856); Gio Domenico (1861).

Re: Giannini Family of Lammari, Lucca, Tuscany
This is a copy of something I wrote on Ancestry a while back:
I'm researching my step-mom's Gianninis. I believe they were also from the Lucca area in Tuscany and arrived after 1900, settling in Philadelphia. Francesco was born 1887, came over in 1907 and was a barber. There was a brother John/Giovanni. We believe they were close relations of the tenor Ferruccio Giannini and his son Vittorio. It is said that Vittorio walked an aunt down the aisle (following Francesco's death). I've learned that Ferruccio's parents were Giovanni and Euphemia (Cardosi) Giannini and that the family was from "Ponte all'Ania" area near Lucca. I have yet to tie Francesco definitively to my step-mom's family.

Marty,
Wondering if you have compiled page numbers for the indexes? I’m having a hard time finding them!

Hi George,
I have found your great-great Grandmother's wedding record. She is the daughter of Andrea Giannini and was born in Segromingo in Piano. There is a large Giannini family from there and I believe they are distantly related to my Lammari Giannini's, but going back to 1730, I cannot find a definitive link. I hope this helps!

Re: Giannini Family of Lammari, Lucca, Tuscany
Hi extended family,
I am researching my family tree and have a couple of conundrums that I am hoping to solve??
My great grandfather was Arthur Giannini who was born in Brisbane, Australia. When my grandmother was one, he literally abandoned his wife and children and there is no death re odd for him anywhere in Australia post 1930.
His father was Nicolaus Gianinni who we were told was born in Lammari/Lucca however I am unsure where to start searching on the internet for Italian birth records to research Nicolaus further or to see if when Arthur abandoned his family, if he went to Italy where he had Extended family to start a fresh?
There is absolutely no record of Arthur’s death anywhere in Australia and a grave search also show no grace for him.
My grandmother never knew her father and now 90 years on, I’d love to learn more about my Italian heritage and lineage. Any help in being pointed in the right direction would be amazing

Hi Lost Family 83,
I am happy to help you. Do you have any idea as to what year Nicolaus may have been born, or what his wife's name might have been?
