Help Translating Allegeto

Post by brogie62 »

As part of the allegeto for a Sicilian marriage was a document giving the testimony of 4 men as to the parentage of the bride. Not unusual as the both the bride's father and his father were deceased. However, my limited Italian was good enough to note such phrases as 'affair of justice' and 'condemned in Palermo' but not good enough to make out any details, if any are to be had. I am attaching one of the 4 testimonies. I think they all pretty much say the same thing.

Could some kind person please translate this for me. I am dying to find out what its about.

Thanks,
Kevin

The testimony said Itria was the daughter of Croce, who was in his turn the son of Caterino.
Caterino was taken to Palermo or some other place (sent to jail) and died in the place where he was taken about 23 years before. He died at the time when Marianazzo di Floridia (maybe a well-known outlaw) was haunted by justice.

Thanks Pippo! I had surmised some of that but was hoping for more detail. I guess there was none. I tried doing searches on Marianazzo di Floridia without luck. Marianazzo seems to be an epithet for an outlaw based upon the original Marianazzo from the 16th century.

I had forgotten to include that this marriage was in Palazzolo Acreide in 1837.

Thanks again.

I guess this also explains why there was no death record extract for Catarino Bologna in the allegati.
No one knew exactly when or where he died, just that he was dead.

Of course! The death certificate was replaced by declarations of testimonies.
