Birth records from Cuorgnè

Post by cvmadd »

Hi all! I have been on the hunt for my nonna's birth records for ages now, and have finally gotten a break in the case, so to speak! She always said she was born in Locana, and we've been there, seen her old house, etc...but I could never locate any kind of a birth record for her from Locana. Now we think she may have been born in Cuorgnè and moved back to Locana (where her family lived for generations) at some stage. It turns out her sister was born in Cuorgnè, and we think we found the record for her, which was a really helpful find. But this means I'm starting all over looking for connections in a new comune. I've tried the usual routes....writing to the comune (but did I write to the correct people??)....scouring Family Search records, but those digitized records only appear to go up to 1900 (https://www.familysearch.org/search/ima ... %3D1475996). Anyone have any ideas about where to go from here? Any information on Cuorgnè, or success stories about locating birth records from there?

In case you're interested, the nonna in question....
Name: Maria Yolanda (sometimes listed as Yolanda Maria) Bertolino
DOB: June 6 1906 (give or take a year)
Mother: Maria Bertolino b. 1877 in Locana (we located the record for this)
Father: Giovanni Antonio Bertolino b. 1869 in Locana (have record for this, too)
Arrival in USA: March 13 1921

Any ideas at all would be so very appreciated!

It looks like you'll need to send a request to the civil records office in the comune to request a copy of her birth act.

Write a letter, in Italian to:

Ufficio di Stato Civile
Comune di Cuorgnè
Via Garibaldi 9
10082 Cuorgnè (TO)
Italy

mariangela.berra@comune.cuorgne.to.it

Include a photo ID

Thanks very much to both... I'm still a little new at this whole forum thing and haven't figured out how to set up alerts etc. when someone responds to my post, so I just finally found this one again and saw these!

@liviomoreno I tried doing some searches but somehow missed the actual name (mariangela.berra), which is incredibly useful. I've tried sending emails to general inquiry addresses, and those are the ones that, of course, never really get a response. So thank you again!

Also, I've never included my photo ID before in my requests (even when they were to the wrong comune, sigh!), but that's what you'd recommend, right? Perhaps just a scan of a driver's license or work ID? Even if my last name doesn't match the last name on the record being requested?

Thank you again!

Hello to anyone still out there/following this thread! Just a quick update to say I have sent a few letters/emails (in Italian), with scans of my photo ID to the offices in Cuorgnè, but nothing has really worked. Actually, I have yet to receive any kind of a response at all.

Has anyone else had similar issues? And were you eventually able to get a response and/or copy of the document you needed without physically going to the comune? Wondering if there are any other tips or thoughts folks might have on this. I've been chasing this piece of the puzzle for years, and thought we were getting closer by realizing my nonna may have been born in a different comune than the one she grew up in, but hmmmm.... Anyway! Open to any and all suggestions!

Hi Marty!

Thank you again for your advice! It's always so helpful. So, I did try sending to that same address and email, but perhaps I will give it another try with your letter example. It's much more succinct than what I've been sending. Thank you very much for that!

Also, this is my nonna's sister, Maria Dominica, born in Cuorgnè in December 1896:

We're fairly certain now that my nonna, Maria Yolanda, and her other sister Emma Carlotta (or Carlotta Emma), were also born in Cuorgnè around 1906 and 1901 respectively. Unfortunately, I can't seem to find any birth records online that go later than 1900? But if you have any thoughts about places to look other than FamilySearch, I welcome them!

I don't know if this matters or is useful, but their parents, Maria and Giovanni Antonio, were both from Locana.

Gio Antonio: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903 ... cc=1475996

Thank you again for your help, Marty! I hope you are well!
