I am wondering if anyone can give me a direction to go in to get more information on the following:
Before coming to the USA, but after leaving the Italian Army (Bersaglieri 10th Regiment), my great-grandfather went to Germany to work (abt 1907). Family stories don't give a location, but we know he was there. His Foglio Matricolare further says that he was given leave and placed under the jurisdiction of the Cologne Consulate. I would love to get more information on this, but I am doubtful that the Italian Consulate in Cologne still has such records (maybe I'm wrong?). I imagine these records are somewhere, though. Would the Italian government archives or German government archives be the best place to look?
