Looking for my Ancestors :)
Re: Looking for my Ancestors :)
Hi Lisa,
Welcome to the forum!
You need to post your own thread on your family.
To get you started, there are no filmed records for the comune of Isca Sullo Ionio, Catanzaro prvince, Calabria region, so you will have to write the comune for her birth act and other family information
http://www.circolocalabrese.org/resourc ... /index.asp
Here is the address to write:
Ufficio dello Stato Civile
Comune of Isca Sullo Ionia
88060 ISSCA SULLO IONIA
ITALY
Also write in Italian and include photo ID, self addressed return evelope, and international reply coupon (obtain from your local PO).
Here is a link to a form letter or you can compose your own and the wonderful people here translate it for you.
Hope this helps.

I have a relative that immigrated from Isca Sullo Ionio named Catherine Gidaro (maiden name Procopio). I don't have very much information on her, except for what my dad has told me and what I found on her death certificate. She was born 1 Sep 1892 (1893 SS Death Index), married Dominic Gidaro, and lived in Mt Carmel, Pennsylvania. She also died on 28 Apr 1982. If you have any information that could help me it I would truly appreciate it, because I have very little information on the italian side of my family.
Thanks,
Lisa
Just to let you know that Family History Center does have microfilm for the town of Isca Sullo Ionio. Here is the link for the films. However, I have all of them in my procession and will look up your ancestor on Wednesday. Do you know the names of Caterina Procopio's parents??? Procopio is a popular name. The surname Gidaro is not a very popular name in the town.
Here is the link for the film numbers in case you ever want to order and rent the films yourself.

Here is a link to find the nearest Family History Center.

Most of the people who came from Isca Sullo Ionio all went to the Northumberland County of Pennsylvania. They are in the towns of Mt. Carmel, Shamokin, Marion Heights, Kulpomont, etc. I've done research for several people from that area with surnames of Mirarchi, Coroniti, Scicchitano, Procopio, etc.
Also, just to let you know I have the surname Procopio in my family too. I should say I have tons of Mirarchi and Procopio in my family.lol My surnames alone are Mirarchi, Procopio, Guarna, Coroniti, Pupo, Varano, etc.
Once again, I'll look at the film tomorrow and get back to you about the Birth Act for Caterina Procopio.
Have a good one

ooking 4 my Ancestors! to: elenuccia about Vecchiarelli
elenuccia wrote:Hi "distant cousin" Trish!
As far as I know, all Vecchiarelli´s of Castelpetroso descend from Cristinziano (d 1831, at age 83)/b], a shoemaker born in Agnone, son of Angiolo (b 1702/03), also a shoemaker, & Cecilia Pallotto (b 1704/05), both residents of Agnone. [/b Maria Antonia Vecchiarelli (b 1803/04 -d 1881),a daughter of Cristinziano is my gg grandmother. Other ancestors of mine are: Giovanna de Francesco (born about 1740), Antonia di Stefano (born about 1794), & Antonia Cifelli.( birth date still uncertain, but in the first half of the 1700´s. Maybe we have more family connectons than just the Vecchiarelli´s!
Hi Elenuccia,
I think we are related. Cristinziano Vecchiarelli and Vincenza Perfeti are my g.g.g.g.grandparents. This is how it my branch goes.
Cristinziano Vecchiarelli and Vincenza Perfeti had Pasquale Vecchiarelli.
Pasquale Vecchiarelli married Teresa Vecchiarelli and they had Nicolantonio Vecchiarelli.
Nicolantonio Vecchiarelli married Giovanna Emmanuela DeFrancesco and they had Teresa Vecchiarelli. Also, had Assuanta Vecchiarelli who married Santo (Alexander) Cifelli.
Teresa Vecchiarelli married Pasquale DeStefano and they had my grandfather, Leonard Destefano. However, Pasquale DeStefano dies and Assuanta Vecchiarelli dies within the same year so Teresa Vecchiarelli marries her brother-in-law, Santo (Alexander) Cifelli.
So as you can see, we are related in many ways!!!!!:):):)

Debby
I left you a message but I found a baby book of my dad's and it lists Elizabeth and Mary Procopio coming to visit him as a baby. I am assuming that they visited him in the hospital. My great granparents were Dominic Gidaro and Elizabeth Procopio. Do you know who Elizabeth or Mary Procopio might be?

My great-grandfather immigrated to the Kulpmont/Mt Carmel area from Isca as well-his name was Antonio Anoia. I've been trying to locate family back in Italy and find out more about the family. Any ideas how to get started? Thanks!
