US naturalization doc search request

As I'd previously thought my GM was born in Italy, I hadn't bothered to search much about her parents (they WERE born in Italy). But my GM was actually born in Connecticut. Her parents came over from Italy in the 1890s.

Can someone with an Ancestry account check to see if there are US naturalization documents for either of them? (My Ancestry account expired and I can't set another up just yet.) If they didn't naturalize, or naturalized AFTER my GM was born, I'll have angle for a possible 1948 case...

Joseph (or maybe Giuseppe) Contino, born in Italy circa 1870, first came to the US in 1894.
Catherine Contino, born in Italy circa 1880 (maiden name not known), first came to the US in 1896.
They both resided in Connecticut.

Can you provide a bit more information? Where specifically in Italy were they from? What is your grandmother's name and when was she born?

I searched CT naturalization records with just the surname CONTINO and only 8 records came up. 7 of them were for Giuseppe #1 (who was single) and 1 came up for a Giuseppe #2 (married with 10 kids). I hope you can see the attached images but neither appear to fit your description. Ciao, Eric

I tried to attach BOTH declarations but it did not happen. The one that did attach shows the married Giuseppe Contino. The one that did not attach for you to view was for the SINGLE Giuseppe Contino, it says he was never married and he was in his 50's at the time of naturalization (during the 1930's). Ciao, Eric

Can you tell me how to look up these naturalization documents online? I have an index search in but would love to put myself at ease by confirming before the months pass that I hear it takes for the index search to come back.

I pay for membership to Ancestry.com. They have a few different USA State and Federal naturalization indexes to search, but since I pay for membership I am not certain if any of them are available to non-members. If you do not have a paid membership to ancestry you will have to check on line elsewhere to see if there are free naturalization databases. Maybe someone will read this and be kind enough to post some free databases for you.

Thanks for the reply hallsandgrants. I started with an Ancestry membership but didn't find much so I canceled it. I actually found more and better info for free on FamilySearch.org. I know it's different for pretty much everybody though.

Thanks to you too. I have so much information in Ancestry (including lots of DNA tests) I continue my membership there. But I too just found out that FamilySearch.org has really come a long way and is an outstanding website - for free. I joined that a while back too but just "re-discovered" them. I joined because the LDS does have a lot of resources and there is a research center near my home where I can order microfilms. But I must say that generally speaking, Ancestry has lots more on-line records. I just compared and there is no doubt about that, and there are private web pages that compare them as confirmation. And the way the DNA tests can be linked to your family trees on Ancestry is awesome. I was able to make connections with people (distant cousins) there and get additional family history information that I never could have gotten otherwise. For me belonging to both is what I want to do but for people on tighter budget FamilySearch is great.
