3 Year Residency - Check Ins/Ups?

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

3 Year Residency - Check Ins/Ups?

Post by littlelion95 »

I am curious if anyone has more information on the actual logistics and timing behind the ancestral three year residency to citizenship path?

I have already obtained all of the necessary documentation, codice fisciale, visa, and a permesso di soggiorno as well as the form I need to fill out to register as a resident (I also have a permanent home here).

I am most curious about the timing and legitimizing of the necessary 6 months per year stay in Italy. I would like to travel around Europe to some degree. Is it necessary for me to check in with my local municipio to prove I am in the country the proper amount, or does someone come check my residence to confirm my presence? Or is it simply done by passport stamps, to show I have not been out of the country for more than 6 months per year?

Grazie in advance :)
