Miami Consulate and Name Changes

Post by ericderrico »

I am applying for Italian Citizenship GGF > GF > F > Me through the Miami Consulate. A few questions before I go to confirm I have all the right papers concerning name changes and Miami:

1. I have numerous documents regarding my Great Grandparents where their names vary in spelling from document to document, but especially for my GGM. As I am applying through my GGF, how critical is it my GGM last name spelling is correct on every document? Also, on her birth and death records her mother's (my GGGM) maiden name was butchered badly. Just want to know what is going to be flagged and what I shouldn't worry about.

2. My GGF's naturalization record has a typed message on the backside that states he officially changed his surname from Svelto to D'Errico. His birth certificate I have from Italy is for his former surname, Svelto. All other records of marriage, death, etc for our family is our surname D'Errico. Would this information be sufficient or would Miami look for something in addition I hadn't considered?
Researching surnames: D'Errico, Bellotti (and other spellings), D'Avolio, Calvano, Marano
