hello,
I'm looking to trace the line of Ercole Lombardi and need some direction. According to his 13 APR 1878 • Trivigno, Potenza, Basilicata marriage and his 14 MAR 1924 • Trivigno, Potenza, Basilicata death Ercole was born in 1851 Civitella Casanova, Pescara, Abruzzo. Both records also list his parents as unknown.
I looked through all the birth records from 1848-1853 for Civitella but cannot find a listing for Ercole. Even if he was orphaned, shouldn't there be a civil listing for Ercole's birth? Any ideas where to look from here or do you think he's going to be a dead end?
thanks!
nich

Ercole Lombardi (a "made up" name) was an abandoned child (foundling) who was left at the wheel. His birth registration (dated 6 February 1850) appears amongst the Diversi records. Here it is No 2 (left side).

You are awesome! Thank you so much. I'm rather new to the Italian genealogy and when I asked a friend what the Diviersi records were she never mentioned they could have births so I hadn't thought to check them. I appreciate this so much.

When conducting my own research I always take a look through the Diversi records. Besides the births of foundlings, you may also find stillbirths, name corrections, etc. Take a look at the following link, where Carubia, halfway down the page, has explained really well what you may find in the supplementary records and diversi. It's really interesting and very informative:
